From what I have heard, you have to have some kind of boot loading program so you can select which one you want.

many of the Linux flavors support multiple OS strapping. SuSe and Mandrake support about 6 I do believe.

Okay, down to business, i jsut bought a new 40G HD for Linux, what is the "proper" way to install linux on the new HD? I really can't risk messing my ntfs files..Do i jsut stick the redhat disc in and let it install byitself? or do i have to choose specifically which drive?

you have to select which drive you want to install the OS to. you can do that during the install.

as for selecting between OS's at boot up, it will give you the open when the system detects the two OS's... or you can get a program like BootMagic which comes with PartitionMagic, which presents you with a GUI interface allowing you to sellect the OS you want to boot from.
