The manifold on my '99 Saturn needs to be repaired or replaced. The exhaust studs going to the down pipe are rusted off and the muffler shop I went to last Fall drilled them out and used nuts and bolts. This did the job for a few months but now I have another exhaust leak.

My choices now are to either get another used manifold or remove mine and try to install new studs and gaskets. New manifolds are no longer available.

did they use a proper gasket?

Why not just install a new manifold or was the old one repaired and put back on?

That close to the engine you need to use a manifold with the studs in it due to the heat, vibration, and torque of the engine.
I usually try the online retailers like autozone, or rockauto, but with a manifold i fear you'll have to visit a wrecker for the part.

No luck at all finding a replacement manifold at the yards around here. Like I said, I'm pretty sure mine can be repaired if I can remove it and install new exhaust studs. I have a tap and die set and a small MIG welder..

They're no longer available new since GM dissolved Saturn a few years ago. Common parts are still available but not exhaust manifolds. Even if they were they would probably cost $400 or so.

I've seen headers on Ebay for $200 but installing one would mean changing the whole exhaust system.

It's in a tight spot to get a picture. The a-holes at Midas drilled out the studs where the exhaust downpipe bolts onto the manifold and replaced them with flimsy nuts and bolts. I'm going to another shop tomorrow where hopefully they can fix it correctly.

The muffler is also hitting the trailer hitch frame. I swear I'm never taking my business to Midas again. I'd be very surprised if their mechanics are even licensed. Judging by the work they do I doubt it very much.

Had it fixed today and it cost less than expected. Hopefully it will last a few more years.
