Nah the boxes are just to get the height needed to fit to the prometeia. As long as you don't put it on metal you are ok. Life is easier outside the box. |

what was the cost of the prometeia? or was it a "demo" that someone got to keep?
It would be nice to see the Prometeia offered as a stand alone kit...like the VapoChill units are....
the Vapo Chill for around 500.00 doesn't sound to bad really. |

| The prom was like $966 including taxes and cpu kit. It is a stand alone unit. You can get them at Kit-Tronics (www.kit-tronics.com) Probably the cheapest place to get them in Canada. |

1) cardboard doesnt conduct electricity.
2) its hard to tell, but I installed the little metal posts like what is in a case just so it sits up in the air (better cooling on the bottom like this).
No problems running like this. Its been in this form for like 2 weeks. I've done a few additions to that setup though. Now it has 2 case fans. 1 case fan sitting to the side of the drive cage in back, facing the drives cooling them off (for some reason they get really hot without the fan and are very cool with the fan...we're talking like 30-40F difference...very wierd). Also there is a case fan sitting on top of the powersupply facing outwards (pulling air from inside the area to the outside...helps move air around alot better). _________________ TestOC PC

no t so much in the manner you think, but it does promote ESD....which is one reason why the boards come in shielded bags. |

DMW - if they do, its not nearly enough to matter all that much. Or atleast I don't care right now.
I don't think people should do this for a main system, but if you want to test something out for a little bit (little bit being something like a couple hours or less), then I see no problem. But doing it for as long as I have is not recommended. _________________ TestOC PC

Heh. It doesn't do much really.
If I was going to do some serious serving, it wouldn't be setup like that.

| LOL dead pets. I only have a dog, and if she came near the computer, the comp would die long before it would hurt her. She's 1/2 Sheppard and 1/2 Staffordshire. I pretty much always run like this, just cuz I am too lazy to keep unscrewing things. I have a Lian Li PC70, a Chenbro cube, an XPider and a fulltower server case sitting on the floor unused. |
