I overclocked my GeForce 3 and broke it. I had it o/c'ed to 215/515 and after about 3 months it stopped working. I got a new one, and now I'm afraid it'll happen again. My question is this: SHould I only overclock the card when I'm ready to play a game, or should it 'stay' overclocked all the time. (I now have a 120mm fan blowing directly at the card 3 inches away)
Thanks,

It's a GeForce 3, an ASUS V8200 Pure with 64mb. I'm running the 21.81 reference driver.
I'm only overclocking the card, not the PC. My PC specs:
ASUS P4T
P4 1.7ghz
256 MB RDRAM
60GB IBM HDD
16x Plextor DVD
etc.....
I'm only wondering if (now that I have that 120mm fan blowing at it) the card should stay overclocked all the time of if I should o/c it when I'm playing games. (is it harder on the card to overclock and overclock and overclock over and over again, or is it better to just leave it overclocked all the time)
THANKS,

You will need to install some extra case cooling to cool down your chips. Also, install some ramsinks to get rid of the heat off your ram and pervent electromigration which is the disintegration of electronic chips. That is probably what happened to you. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Buy a new card....
GeForce 4 Ti4200 -----> Ti4600
If u have one of those.... u dont need to overclock...
(And the card will not break)
