|
|
Hi, I live in Spain and am about to embark on a new build. I've come across a brand called "Tacens" (www.tacens.com) and I like their 680w copper PSU, cases and heatsinks. However, I know that a PSU is a very important component and needs to be reliable and stable. I was wondering if anyone knows of Tacens and whether they can recommend them. I get the impression they are an up and coming brand name in computing (only been around for a year or so it seems)... but then I could be wrong!
I managed to find a review of their 1000w PSU on google and it got thumbs up but this is not enough to confirm their reputation... I can find nothing else in English about them on Google!! _________________ P4 2.8ghz OC @ 3ghz 800fsb

I've yet to see any of their products for sale in North America. They're a relative newcomer on the consumer retail market, so it's unsurprising that you've gotten no responses. It takes a fairly long time to devolop a good reputation in this business, and news of one bad product or support blunder can spread like wildfire across the net.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but let us know about your experience with this supplier.
Good luck!

Ok, I built my Dad a new pc with a Tacens case, Tacens PSU and Tacens heatsink... 2 months later and all is well and good.
I allowed my Dad to choose the case seeing as it was the only part he could have a say in lol! He chose the Tacens “Algeo”. It looks very slick and tidy and despite the huge 250mm fan on the side (as well as a 140mm and 135mm fans) it is pleasantly quiet. Only drawback was that it has a light and "plasticky" feel to it. I have a Thermaltake Xaser 3 case which is made of steel so I suppose I'm used to a very solid case. In light of the price this is perfectly acceptable though... you pay for what you get right? I doubt it's any less "plasticky" than other cases for the same price. If memory serves we paid about 75 euros for it (about £50). Bottom line is it looks great, has fantastic cooling and is practically silent. I personally loved the 250mm fan on the side and wanted one for myself!
The 680w copper PSU was weighty, solid and looked great. My Dad reports no problems with it so far. He has a geforce 8500 attached to it and uses an Intel core 2 duo 6700. I’ve bought rubbish PSUs in the past which have died after only weeks of use so 2 months isn’t bad at all for an unknown brand.
The heatsink; “Gelus Extreme”... hmmm... now I’ve never used a non-stock heatsink before (present one is stock intel and previous was a crazy small one in an old Dell system). Anyway, I have to say that it looks great, feels solid and has an external fan speed adjuster but it was a tad tricky to put on to say the least. It took us 2 hours in the early hours of the morning to figure it out. When I say "figure it out", I mean actually attach the thing... we new what to do, but doing it (for the first time) was another matter! Needless to say, once you know how it goes on and find the magic touch (it's fiddly if you have large hands and fingers), it’s relatively easy. I assume everyone will know what it is (probably a standard way to attach new heat sinks...) but it has 4 “popper” type clips which “pop” into the mother board when pushing 2 diagonal opposites at the same time. Unfortunately it came off after transit across Spain (a 5 hour drive) which I am undecided whether to construe as expected or not. My Dad managed to get it back in himself (which says a lot), and sure enough it is still on today doing a good job.
Anyway, that is a brief experience with Tacens and overall it was good. I plan on a new build myself soon and I would definitely use their PSUs, and provided other new heatsinks use the same method of attachment, I’d strongly consider using Tacens’ too. However, I doubt I’ll replace my case in a hurry. Roll on Intel’s new (proper) Quads! _________________ P4 2.8ghz OC @ 3ghz 800fsb
