PVR or HTPC

I am really considering building what i thought would be called a PVR box, but frm what i read it would be classified as a HTPC box. Here is what i got, what i am thinking and finally what i want to do:::

Have:
Spare computer, running Athlon 64, 2.0ghz, 512DDR, dual 120gig hard drives, Ge force video card, and on bard sound, running a generic DVD drive, and of course windows xp pro
--> i already have a spiller to splt my cable connection out of the wall. Also have a spare CAT6 cable next to my computer, already connected to router.

Thinking:
Beyond Tv 4?
Hauppauge (there is where i am lost) dont know witch one to go with

Confused with:

What software do i need?? every article i read it seams to saying something totally different, and what hardware would u all recomend.
