I just upgraded to the radeon 9800, p4c800 and a gig of dual corsair ddr3700.
Problem 1: Whenever I play anygame my computer occasionally slows down to the point of freezing, sound cuts out, and sometimes it will just freeze up and the sound will loop and everything is stuck until I reset. It also freezes up occasionally during simple tasks like opening a folder. I know that this board supports 21,27, and 3200 ddr and I was wondering if my ram is too good for the board. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a heat problem to me. check the CPU fan if it's installed properly, and did you apply any grease on (ie. Artic Silver), what is your BIOS configuration for the CPU and Ram, did you OC your system. Check all the settings and make sure you're not over working the CPU.

My system is not oced and Im using all the defaults for options for the cpu etc. I checked the cpu fan and it seems secure. I have asus prob and I noticed that my temp goes from around 30 at rest to around 60 when Im playing games, I checked the fans and they all seem to be working. My warning temp is 75 and its not close to that. Any other suggestions?

Yes, you have a heat problem, your temperatures are setting off the throttling mechanism on your cpu. Load at stock should be 45-50 max.

What voltage are you running and what is yur case temp?

default voltage on a 420 watt psu. The default setting for warning voltage on my cpu monitor is 72 C and I regularly get upto 60 playing games with all my 7 fans on max. The cpu temp with nothing serious running sits at around 30 C. I also noticed while trying to play a video in windows media player that my pc will crash with an audible 'click'..... Would it be safe to say that my ram is not causing the problems? thats the biggest of my worries.

Would you realize and stop denying that you have a temperature PROBLEM!!

Update your heatsink or remove the crappy black pad and install some arctic silver.

I don't care what you set your warning temperature to, that has no bearing on what your problem is.

Update you heatsink, update your thermal compound.

Had to recently set one of these up. I turned "everything" in bios off (devices e.g. firewire, USB and SATA since he was using Adaptec 29320 HostRAID) which also included no HyperThreading - then a clean OS install.

He too had Corsair, same speed. "Dumbed down" the RAM, 2-3-3-6 with Infinite and the reboots, locks and crackles stopped.

Turned devices on, one at a time - still no problems. Only thing not changed was no HT and kept memory timings. Solid.

I believe that dual channel emmory is supposed to be set at 3-8-4-4.

You guys are setting the timings waaay to tight for what the memory is rated for.

Drop the timings and I think it should solve your problems.
