|
|
Well, I've finaly decided to bite the bullet and build a new rig. My old rig is still perfectly servicable but its just so old now and I'm tired of it....
The components I'll be getting are
ASUS P5N-E
Gainward 8600gt (x2 later on)
1gb corsair value ram (temp till my supplier gets better ram in stock)
Man, I'm so excited, I havn't built a new system for myself in 5 years
The rest of the kit I already have and I'll take some pics and do some benchmarks once its all together, I just have to wait for the money from the sale of our car. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

I hope your car is a Mercedes or Rolls, Xal!
Good luck with it, there's nothing more fun than a new baby.. But I should caution you about one thing -
Once it's Right, you might not have any more problems to ask TN about - so,, it's easy to lose contact
Llike after my 4GB Monster was born a few months ago.... No more SLOW anything, no more LOW Virtual Memory Warnings -
It's too perfect and you forget it's a computer, it's more like a right arm, that does what your brain tells it - so you can party more & do less work in less time.
(I'm here today looking for info on a good external hardrive so I can store audio with my Inspiron laptop 128mb baby, then run it thru a PA.
I would love to hear some advice from everyone on reliable brands, reviews, storage space, music quality etc, best cable connections & anything else anyone can think of.
The xtern. hardrive has to be dependable, probably a higher end model if i can afford it - don't they run about $80 +? Gotta sound goooooood with lotsa room 4 audio.)
Sorry to hijack the thread, Xallie! Congrats on the future new system! How many GBS etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc will it have?
Get one with a temp gauge on the front, I love watching the little gif fan spin around with the temp in 1/10 degree increments -
It actually alerted me to a problem once when the Media thing on the TV got frozen up one time. - it scared me to death! The temp suddenly started going higher every second till it hit 105* and I turned it off & rebooted after a few tense minutes.
It hasn't done it again in months, but now I also don't surf around as much while watching TV on it.
And I keep an eye on that gauge,,,
Post pix of your car, maybe someone on TN will buy it..
Uhhhhhhhh, Xal,,,,, it isn't a 1987 Civic............? _________________ ♫ Josh Awards=+12 -5 =7 ~HaM=3~ Ж=3 ~Zero_Fresh=3~Burgundian Award=1~JW=4 ~ ÿ =1~Sean=1~Dene=3 ~Putale Kudos=1~GMoney=4~Sally Grommit Award=1~Bunni & Badger=2 Gold Stars ♫

Haha, thanks RS
Not a civic and its already sold , we are just waiting for the cash to come through. We sold it through a dealer (the wife arranged it) so now we just have to wait for the money. It was a 2000 Fiat Punto, not the best of cars but hey, thats why we sold it We also have a Cherokee which we use to go up to the mountains for fishing In town though it works out cheaper to use taxis than to pay insurance and all the other stuff so we figured we'd keep the jeep and ditch the fiat so we at least have a holiday vehicle.
PC specs will be
CPU - Intel 805D 2.66 (I will clock this thing heavily )
MOBO - ASUS P5N-E
RAM - 1gb corsair valueselect (temp, til I gots more $$)
GFX - Gainward golden sample Geforce 8600GT
HDD - 200GB seagate barracuda SATA
CASE - (wait for the review )
PSU - NEXUX 80+ 8060 600W modular (the one I reviewed)
I'll upgrade further as money comes in (which it is now thank god) and get a second 8600GT and hopefully 4gb of low latency ram (for my 3d work). Maybe I'll get an X-fi platinum later on too..... _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

Well, I finaly got the stuff I couldn't be happier, this motherboard really kicks ass, the features are great, its dead stable and overclocks like a champ. Pics of the new build will come soon
For now though, a few benchie scores on the 8600GT
Aquamark
75432
3dmark 05
7980
That is with the 805d clocked at 3.33ghz. The CPU is bottlenecking the GPU These cards are fast, very fast. At stock CPU clock I only got 65443 in aquamark and 6403 in 3d05 so as you can see this GPU should be more than powerfull enough for most ppl looking for an upgrade. Next up is to find a 64bit copy of XP and get a copy of vista on this thing (dual boot).
Well, if anyone has any questions, fire away, I'll be happy to answer anything you guys need _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

Cool, nice one RS.
Pics will come soon
More scores
3Dmark06 - 4923
All in all I'm very happy with this setup. The Mobo has great OCing options and the 8600 is fast enough for my needs. Now when the new 1333 FSB CPUs come out I'll be ready (though it will take me a while to save up the cash lol). _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock
