|
|
I recently modified my Xbox Cable to fit in a USB cable allowing for the use of Steering wheels, controllers, and dance mats to be compatible with my PC. Here is what I did.
NOTE: I am Not responsible for any damage caused to the controller, computer, cables, or any other equipment. I am also not responsible for any damages to the body cause by this mod, such as cuts or burns, or emotional distress caused by frustration or failure.
1. remove smaller portion of cable. This cable containes the connector for the Xbox, and the top part of the "trip cord" system. Have a USB cable, scissors, hot glue gun, wire strippers, and electrical tape ready.
2. Cut the Trip cord in the middle between the plastic bar, and the connector
---------<====>--------|----------<==={
the vertical line represents the cut.
NOTE: If possible, leave the YELLOW cable connected, it will not be needed to install the USB cable. It may be easier to cut it and reconnect later if it gives you more room to work.
3. cut the USB cable. Keep in mind you need to leave room to connect the cable, and room to strip wires, I recommend about 3 inches.
}--------------------------------------------|-------------------------{
4. Note the 5 colors of the wires in the Xbox cable. Green, White, Yellow, Red, and Black. Only 4 of these will be used to install the USB cable. Note: The USB should also contain Green, White, Red, and Black.
5. Strip all the cables, (3 sets, one on rest of cable, second on the USB cable, and the third on the Xbox port)
Twist the cables together by matching colors, all three should be connected. Use the hot glue to cover the ends of the cables in order to prevent shorts. Make sure all metal coming from cables is covers, and no other wire is touching it. do this for each cable. It gets trickey once things start to get tangled. Have patience.
NOTE: Hot glue is used because if a mistake is made, it is easily removed. Electrical tape can also be used but is difficult to make it stay on the cable. Sodder may also be used. I did not use sodder because I do not have a sodder gun readily available.
6. Attach the USB end to the computer, and connect the Xbox controller, testing that it is detected. If it is not, check all the connections, remove wires from hot glue by peeling the hot glue away, or by melting it off. Once the computer successfully detects the controller, attach the other end to your Xbox and check for proper functioning of the controller.
7. Next use the electrical tape to completely cover the exposed wires. You can use as much as you like, just make sure everything is secure.
8. Drivers for your controller can be found here
http://www.redcl0ud.com/xbcd.html#download
Download latest version. and Install.
Connect your controller again to your PC, and when prompted, click continue anyway to install drivers.
DONE! You now have a working USB\XBOX adapter for your XBOX devices.
PS. If you like DDR, then download Stepmania and connect your dacepad!

Just to clarify, you basically created a Y male connector. One side of the Y can be used in an USB port and the other can be used in the Xbox. The controllers connect to the Y through the quick disconnect feature on the cable.
Did I get it right? I got a little lost in you description and wanted to make sure I understand what the final result was.
Post some pictures, I want to see this thing. _________________ "....Or as almost every word in a sentence; Tweak the tweaking tweakers!"

yeah, it is a Y adapter. The cut was made about the quick disconnect. This allows for different controllers to be connected to the same adapter. I will post some pics in a little later.

that is about what the top of the cord looks like, the first section is the quick disconnect, the vertical line being the spot where it disconnects. The second piece is up higher on the cable, and the cut made between that and the Xbox adapter. _________________ P4 3.2ghz

I don't see any pictures. I am at work right now though so it's possible I can't view them from my work machine. I'll have to take a look at it when I get home. _________________ "....Or as almost every word in a sentence; Tweak the tweaking tweakers!"
