Hi All,

Please help me with the following problem:

I lost internet connection after clicking on any yahoo video page. The video screen pop up but it can not load the video. After that, the internet connection is dead. I have to turn off and then on the power supply of the router to get the internet back.

How about unplugging the cable/dsl modem, then unplugging the router. I am not talking about switching them off, I am saying completely remove the power cord from the back of them.

Wait 2 minutes.

Then plug in the modem and allow it to dial and boot up fully, then plug in the router and allow it to do a fresh bnoot up.

Then try.

Thx, Nathan. I tried your trick but it did not help. Somehow, the PC can not talk to the router. Very strange

Any errors in the system log?

Are any packets moving around?

Hi ToogleHead,

How do we find the system log? What package did you mention?

Update:

This error does not happen when I visit some other websites. That means there are problems with the yahoo website. I dont know exactly what it is.

Click start -> run -> type "cmd" and click ok
then in commant prompt type

ping yahoo.com -t

see if you get a response. If not then you have issues elsewhere, if you do then you probably have spyware or the like.

good luck

Also in dos, type ipconfig /flushdns

This will clear the dns resolver cache.

Restart the comp and then retry.

Thx Nathan and Xal for the last 2 sugestions.

I still can connect to Yahoo as normal. Its just that when I click on a video link on yahoo (with the picture of a camera), then something goes wrong. The window pops up but it seems not be able to connect to the server. Even worse, my internet connection is frozen. Very strange. I have no clue what this problem is because I can still connect to the video links of other websites.

Please think of some new tricks to help me :)

What media player are you using? Windows media or something else?

Sounds to me like corrupt software or codecs.

I think I am using Window Media PLayer. How do I check if it is a codecs problems? You remind me one thing. Recently, I installed VLC player. It may set itself as a default player??? I am not sure how to check on this matter.

Please help.

Try using Codec Sniper. It'll list every codec you have installed, and which ones aren't working properly. You can then remove or repair the broken codecs.......you may have to search Google a bit, but this may fix your problem.

thx, fussfeathers. The codec sniper is something fun to know although it is still the right tool in this situation. All the codecs are ok. I just notice there may be a problem with the scripts??? although I am not sure what a script is. The reason I suspect this thing is because at some points, I got a warning that there are scripts errors

New update:

I just figure outed this important fact:

The problem may be the router !!!! because if I connect the PC directly to the modem, everything is fine. Somehow, the router can not handle the signals sent from the video links???

Any advice is appreciated.
