Hello,

most likely, many of You know a little software called "Com Port Winamp Control" - which can control winamp externally, using 4 or 15 buttons and com port. Just connect the buttons with female com-port, connect it to pc and configure - and that is all, now You can control Your player externally.

The little article to read is here

The main problem is, that You can only click or hold a button, when You want to change the volume.

But - how could we connect "round" volume controller like this:

I suppose, that there are 2 ways:

1. To change the scheme somehow

2. Or - try to create a controller, which will click on the buttons, when You roll it.

None of the above I have not solved yet

Any creative ideas, guys?

Thx

Nice info, looks like a fun mod to do..... (digs out toolbox and hunts for old mice to steal parts from...)

Just a tip, avoid posting links on your first post, you can be mistaken for a spam bot

Welcome to TN

As for the volume control, I doubt you will find a way to pull it off easily, the rotation switches work on resistance and the mod you posted works on shorting points together. No matter the resistance of the switch it is still a short and will work as though you just bridged the wires. The second option you mentioned would be your best bet, something springloaded would be best so as to keep "tap" intervals regular and hence make your controll predictable.

I know this isn't exactly using com port, but the round volume control on my Logitech G15 keyboard works fine for controlling win amp externally. I am not saying go out any buy the keyboard just for this purpose; that would be a very expensive fix. But I would think that there is some hardware out there already in existence.
