Hi im new to the forums and thaught id ask a question.
im running an amd opteron at 2.2 on the stock air hsf and i admit that when im pwning in games such as fear and hl2 on max detail it gets choppy so i overclock a bit and solves the chop issue but the temps are madd high i hit like 49+ and am very scared of burning it out lol since it did cost a pretty penny
i thaught about upgrading to the big typhoon with as5 but i hear its overrated and have also thinking about water cooling as its better with ocing and cooling but am having a hard time finding a kit my case is the nzxt lexa with has great cooling on its own but limited to space as u can tell from the pic

ne help is appreciated! _________________ AMD OPTERON 175 @2.2

That's the copper heatpipe AMD cooler, right? I'm surprised that the stocker isn't performing better than that. Are you sure you have it seated properly? I can't view the pic but I assume you have good airflow through the case. Try removing it, removing the stock thermal material and applying some AS5.
As for aftermarket cooling, the Tt Big Typhoon is good, the Zalman 9500 is a bit better. Look at the graph on this page to see my results with various coolers:

I recommend anything thermalright. When others fail for me, thermalright always does the trick the first time.
Its actually keeping my Opty 170 within 3 degrees of my old water cooler. (Im sure it might have been my water cooling setup...) But still this is quieter and less maintenance. _________________ Remember When Sex was safer than racing???

A good cleaning, maybe lapping of the mating surfaces, and some good AS5, may do what's needed. _________________ .
