Can't connect to wireless network with new Macbook

So my sister got a Macbook for college and I was the first to use, so during the

initiation like setup I was asked to connect to a wireless network. It gave a list of nearby networks and I picked mine and entered the password.

Then it says, "Error when trying to connect"(or something). I didn't want to

mess anything up like I've done before so I'm coming to you guys.

Would it help if I connected through a wired connection?

i would do that first.....just to see if you can get on. Im sure you'll ba able to, the OSX network setup in sys prefs is pretty cool, and easy to use.

If its Airport youre trying to setup, i believe you have to tell it to not look for an airport router.....

Yay! or should I say Booya becuz it sounds more manly? I figured it out from fellow mac users at apple.com So instead of typing the WEP Passkey which is what I was doing, i had to type in the WEP Key along with a "$" (minus the quotations) at the beginning, right before the key. By the way my router is a Linksys WRT54G and the Macbook is awesome! And if you were wondering you don't have to tell it not to look for an airport, just pick a networkand type the right thing in the box.
