Hey all, long time no talk. Ive been very busy this summer going to england... where i met josh and puerto rico... anyways... im looking to build a new rig for college and would appreciate comments and suggestions on what i can change to make it better while keeping it in the same price range at about 1300 ish...

without further ado,

-ASUS K8N-DL Dual Socket 940 NVIDIA nForce4 Professional Extended ATX Server Motherboard
-eVGA 256-P2-N562-AX Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
-Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply
- AMD Dual-Core Opteron 265 Italy 1000MHz HT Socket 940 Processor Model OSA265CBBOX
-CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) ECC Registered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model TWINX2048RE-3200

This totals at 1240.xx. I was thinking about adding on a raptor for my OS?... thoughts suggestions on best drive would be nice. Also, is 550 watt power supply going to be enough or should i look to up it especially if im going to add another proc in a year or so..

Thanks all in advance, once im off in my apartment and done having summer fun i imagine that i will be a regular again.

AHEM core 2 Duo... E6600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115003 369.99 (can be found cheaper, newegg is expensive for this proc IMO)

DFI Infinity Core 2 Board
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136168 199.99

same everything else

can I ask why you were getting a dual socket MOBO? were you planning on getting another 265 opty later down the road?

ah, your a while off, then what I'd do is get a cheap PCI-E card to tide you over, DX10 cards arent gonna come out until like, december, Jan, with Vista (Correct me if Im wrong) Also, the quad core kentsfield is scheduled for then too... there's alot of hardware right around the corner, I think AMD is going to release its 65 nm soon too... If I was in your position, Id wait for the dust to settle from Core 2's launch and then buy... if you must buy now, you'd get better performance from the core 2, with AMD's roadmap, that processor may be hard to find in a year or so... K8L's are supposed to launch along with AM3 (from what I've seen, not set in stone) you'd be fine with whatcha got for now though.

ic... well perhaps ill wait til christmas then... i guess i could use some extra cash now ne ways.... the problem is with my current rig... it doesnt work, its been out of commission for quiet some time. We had a power surge here and it killed the mobo. I guess i could make due with my laptop until then... i was just looking forward to a new gaming... i mean school rig...
ill think this over tonight, i might get the pentium and a cheap graphics card for the time being.

alright, ive decided that ill x the vid card for now and wait for one for christmans, in its place im going to add a second optie and the 320 gig seagate 7200.10 edition with the paralel writing stuff. total is at 1402 with shipping. Also, is this power supply going to be enough????? i think i might need to look for a larger one with two procs and eventually a great graphics card.
