On-Off Button Sticking

I bought following from http://kasecom.com/default.php 2 years ago:

TT561B Black Metal PC Mid Tower

The PC's On/Off button (front of the case) is sticking. When I push the button, the PC usually comes on for a few seconds, and then dies. After several pushes, it "catches" and the PC stays on.

Any one have similar problems? Any recommendations? Can I fix this by oiling the switch? If so, what kind of oil and can I buy it on the internet?

That's not a power switch problem. It's more likely a faulty PSU, processor, or motherboard.

The power switch on a computer case is a simple momentary-switch. All it does is send a signal to the PSU to turn on........it doesn't latch to turn on the PC and unlatch to turn off the PC.

My first step would be to replace the PSU with a known-good spare, to see if that's the problem. If not, then I'd check my HSF and proc for fan operation, proper contact between HSF and proc, and any possible reason for overheating.

I would also download Memtest86, burn it to a bootable CD, and run it for at least 24 hours to rule out bad RAM.

Try oiling the switch first. (Since it doesn't really cost anything.) Either 3in1 or WD40 will work fine. Just don't get sloppy with it and you're alright. If that doesn't work, what FnF posted above is a very good course of action.
