Hi all,

I recently have very strange problem. I was running the WinXP fine. I shut it down normally. Then the next time I turn the power on, the post screen appears just fine, after that the windowXP logo appears a short strip running horizontally. Normally, after that the window screen will appears and the booting process will be completed. But this time, there is only a back screen appears and nothing else.

Please help me to figure out the problem

HI Nathan,

Thank you for asking :). I just do not know what has been happenning. It seems that this is a very common problem when I did the search on google and there is no clear solution for this problem. After all, my conclusion is the video has some problem. I suspect the monitor is too old to be able to understand certain signals sent to it ( just like when we are old, we can not hear well ). I am not 100% sure because I do not have a new monitor to test now. But the question how it happens is still not clear to me.

Another problem I run in lately is the monitor does not respone when we power up. This is also a mystery but at least I think one temporery solution is to unseat the CPU, then clear CMOS, then reseat CPU. This will make the monitor respone again.

If you can explain something, pleease do so. I really want to understand these strange things.

Have you tried going into WinXP in Safe Mode?

If not try and see if you can go in that way. Tap F8 just after the post screen and before the Windows logo comes up.
