welcome!....
that's going to depend largely on the motherboard used in the machine from the factory.
many times they use a hybrid or "special" mobo not available to the open market. This enables them to build 'all in one" solutions and reducing the foot print /costs / etc.
Many times these machines are tweaked to the max already.
basic OC rules will apply, just expect the least, and anything gained will be a bonus!
vaios of the past weren't exactly "friendly" to OCers
a 100MHz jump shouldn't be too hard with the parts made today. |

The fact that Nathan said that no doubt undoubtedly leaves a bad taste in his mouth. ...... _________________ __________[(Crayola)]>_____________

You just recommended that he use a Windows overclocking tool though a couple of days ago you told us how much they suck and were horrible and that real OCing happened in the BIOS _________________ __________[(Crayola)]>_____________

The windows-based ones really aren't that good. Thats why most overclockers use the BIOS and tweak it from there.
However, when your on a pre-built factory-made machine like a Dell or Sony, your rather stuck with the windows-based OC tools. |

Exactly, when you have the choice, you always do it in the BIOS.
If that's not available, you are stuck using the windows based utility.
Man, I really don't think it's kewl to have my recommendations thrown back in my face when I'm helping and my suggestion is warrented. _________________ Owner & Administrator

I guess an apology is in order. I was just trying to say that you must not like to have to say that...... I wasn't trying to throw it in your face. But, excuses aside, I apologize. _________________ __________[(Crayola)]>_____________

MSI makes a utility for their MOBOs...It worked just as good as I was able to do from using the bios.
My 1400Tbird would clock up to 1604(or so) and using the windows based one would do just the same.
Always exceptions to rules....just a matter of luck.

simmer down...we expect to be able to laugh with you, just as we do with ourselves when we have to retract a few things we might say.
Nobody is hassling you. |

Really guys, the cooling on a laptop is only good enough for stocl speeds and will not cool an overclocked system.
Remember, overclocking 200mhz may cost you the whole computer. It's just not worth it in my mind. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Try it, but don't push your luck.
Laptops are barely cooled as it is, overclocking can do some serious damage to it. _________________ Owner & Administrator

You could try. But if you have important data on the machine, I would do a backup before you proceed.
In all reality, you probably won't get anything out of it. _________________ TestOC PC
