So, I just built this new PC and now I am looking to try some over clocking (never done before). I try fiddling with Gigabytes EasyTune4 overclocking program to see what this machine can do. Oh btw, p4 2.4c 800fsb, Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 mobo, 1gig pc3700 coirsair twinx, ati radeon 9800 pro, stock heatsink and fan, arctic silver ceramique applied, only 2 fans, but no fans connected to the sys_fan and pwr_fan connectors. I do all windows updates and update my bios and all. The CPU temp stays at around 33° C when idle on first boot of the day. Reaches around 41-44° C after an hour of gaming.

Ok, so now I try to increase the system bus. I bump it up to 205 and all seems ok... I try going a bit higher to 210, still nothing bad happening, then I bump it up 5 more and screen turns black and the system seems to shutdown, although fans still going lights still illuminated... I restart and everythings fine back to normal. I try a few times but still can't seem to get it to do anything. I do a little reading, and post for some help on extremeoverclockers.com (tweaknews forums were down or something), and someone told me you need to reduce your Memory Frequency down to 333. So I do this, and was able to bump it up a bit more, but once I reached 225 I could not go any farther. My system would crash and I could not boot back up to bios (fast beeping noise was noticed on reboot). So, carefully I remove the battery for 30 seconds and replace. I try a few times more, upped my vcore from 1.525 to 1.600 and increased the system bus to 225 and again same thing happened.

I decided, I must be a noob or my motherboard doesn't overclock for s**t. In any case, can anyone offer any suggestions. I need to be schooled.

Thanks
-Tyler

First off dude, toss out the windows overclocking app, they don't work worth s***. All overclocking is done through the BIOS, PERIOD.

Set your memory timings to "By SPD".

Set your memory divider to 5/4

set your memory voltage to 2.8.

Set your CPU voltage to 1.550v

Lock you AGP/PCI to 66/33

Bump your FSB to 250Mhz FSB and enjoy the 3.0Ghz goodness.
