For those applications where either can be used....and you do not NEED to be able to remove the item.
As a general rule...would the pastes or epoxies be a better choice?

and why...

well, yes you are correct in that adhesives are like glue.

HOWEVER... there are specifically designed adhesives with conductive properties.

The adhesive that I used in this instance is a two part compund that is made by Arctic Silver.

You in fact mix a 1:1 ratio of adhesive to thermal paste...creating a conductive adhesive.
