|

Hey guys,
Just got my new system a few days ago. I am having problems with my
AIW 9800 pro 128mb....when ever i open up the guide plus and pass my mouse cursor over the program, the cursor just disappears. Once I switch programs or move off the guide plus screen, the cursor reappears and works normally. Does anyone know of a quick fix for this.
Thanks
tmal

| have you tried uninstalling it and install it again? It sounds like a conflict/glitch to me. I'll try to find a patch or look into it for you, but i cannot promise anything for you this time. |

| I have noticed the same problem, but my card is the 8500DV. As stated by Icarus, this sounds like is a software glitch. I reloaded XP so have not tried since last week. I don't think this is ATi's fault. I did not have the glitch with MMC before 8.5, and it worked fine before Dx9 arrived. I am installing it in a few minutes. I will update this post a little after that. |

I had a memory error at the end of installing Guide Plus+. Other than that I won't know until it finishes downloading the listings, which is taking forever. Gemstar's servers don't seem to be responding.
A little later: Doh! I forgot to update. Did that and everything works fine. Tmal, did you try the reinstall yet? Do you need to update as well? |

Thanks

Yea that might help, and reinstalling the windows media driver it comes with wouldn't hurt either.

After spending most of today reinstalling all the relavent drivers and associated
programs, with no luck....The only solution I have found is to install guideplus
from my AIW 8500 disk. It seems to function normally. I am not sure what else I can do . Anyone have any suggestions.

If the program works fine from your 8500 disk, use it. There is no difference between the programs. _________________ Owner & Administrator

I've got the same problem. I just got a 9800 Pro AIW, and have the dreaded disappearing mouse cursor when viewing the Gemstar program guide. When the cursor is positioned over the grid portion of the guide, it dissappears in about 2 seconds. Very strange. I've re-installed the drivers for the various multimedia app's with AIW, and this hasn't helped. Anyone discovered anything about this problem yet? I haven't loaded any 3rd party mouse drivers, just using a generic mouse via ps/2.
I've just built the following system:
Asus P4P800 Dlx
P4 2.8 Ghz
WinXP Pro
1G RAM @ 800 FSB
2x 200G WstrnDig's in RAID 0
9800 Pro AIW

Sorry to hear you're having the same prob as me. Loading the old Gemstar
program from my AIW 8500disk only worked for a short while.....then the cursor began to disappeaar again. I contacted ATI and they said
"Regarding Guide+ issue:
This issue affects ATI TV Tuner products using Gemstar Guide Plus software.
Some users have reported that the mouse pointer will disappear when updating the channel listing in Guide Plus.
The mouse pointer only dissappears when it is positioned over the Guide Plus window. It will be visible when held over the Windows desktop or any other open windows.
Objects can still be highlighted and/or selected, but the mouse pointer cannot be seen.
\Closing and restarting the program does not have any impact on the mouse operation.
It seems to occur more frequently using a wheel mouse. Not all systems are affected.
ATI CustomerCare is currently investigating this issue."
So I guess we will have to wait for a solution

Hey, thanks for the info. Wish it was better news though!
Sounds like it may also be mouse specific, I'm using a mouse with a wheel so I might try a couple different mice just to see if it has any effect. |

Well, I don't have a fix, but I have a pretty good work around....
I have never really liked the Guide Plus program very much. It is slow and I hate the way the TV application stays open after you shut it down. What I use it for is just to check the next couple of days ahead and see what I want to record. Anyways.....if you rename the file:
videoTuner.dll to videoTuner.dll.bak
(this file is usually in C:\Program Files\Gemstar\GUIDE PLUS+(TM)\ATI)
or something like that it will cause the TV application to not run in Guide Plus and not only will it run better.... the dissappearing cursor problem will disappear.
Not the perfect solution for this problem but the more I use it this way the more I like it. BTW - I tried replacing the videoTuner.dll (ver 1.0.1.11) with the older one that came with the install disk (ver 1.0.1.10) but the problem still persists.

Hi,
My AIW9000 has the same problem.
A few weeks ago I tried re-installing GuidePlus, after the
re-install GuidePlus couldn't find the TV tuner to load into
the TV window but the pointer no longer disappeared!
Everything worked except for the TV window and the "Watch"
button.
Happy, happy, joy, joy...
Until yesterday, when I loaded GuidePlus the TV window
started working again and the pointer disappears again, *!&#!
I tried reinstalling GuidePlus again but this time it
didn't help, it found the tuner and the pointer disappeared.
I then tried to disable the tuner by renaming the
VideoTuner.DLL file, this definitely disables the TV window
and fixes the disappearing pointer problem but unfortunately
it also disables the "record" function, at least in my case.
The record window pops up but doesn't connect to the Scheduler
built into the TV app and it doesn't bring up the select quality
window after you click record.
I'm wondering if it is some kind of memory allocation problem.
My guess is that if the TV window doesn't load it's using
less memory.
Also I notice that if I launch GuidePlus directly by
doubleclicking the .exe program in the Gemstar sub-directory
that it seems to take longer for the pointer to disappear
then if I launch it by clicking the GuidePlus icon on the ATI
launch menu.
I'm not too impressed with ATI's response... |

A friend of mine had this in reply.
"I also have a AiW 9000 pro with the disappearing mouse pointer problem. I am curious how many of you with this problem, like me, got the OEM version of the video card which DID NOT come with the Remote Wonder? The reason I ask is that the Remote Wonder is designed to control the mouse cursor in the GuidePlus+ program as well as on the desktop...maybe it screws something up if the wireless Remote is not installed? Just an idea. When ATI's Customer Service sucks, leave it to modern day communication to solve the problem for them... :-) Here's hoping this thread attracts many more replies and ATI gets their act together!
tweaker@finestmeatsandcheeses.com"
Kind Regards;

Hi there, I'm new to this site, but came because of this issue. I have the ATI AIW 7500 and get the same problem. It happens to me within 5-10 seconds of being in the guide+.
Hoping for a solution soon... |

I have a AiW 9700 Pro and also lose my curson in GuidePlus
One Thing, it does not relate to the remote wonder not being installed... I have it and it doesn't help.
I am almost positive the problem stems from the TV itself. For some reason the windowed tv seems to think your cursor is idle and thus makes it dissappear so as to not disturb your viewing.
This is why renaming the TV dll file works somewhat.
You can get the program to kind of work by klling ATIMMC via the task manager or by launching the TV program, then GuidePlus, then closing the TV program... basically if you can get the tv window to say no tuner than the program will keep your cursor.
I also noticed moving your cursor into the TV screen once it has dissappeared makes a re-appear for a little.
It's such BS that GuidePlus hasn't done anything about this tho...
I'm gonna keep playing with it... I will post any progress |

Reloading and restarting the follow ATI file got my cursor back ----
tv-capture-wdm-6-14-01-6184v1.exe running that file and restarting
pc got my cursor to stay in guide+ before that it would disappear in 5
seconds.
Hope that works for you. |

| Hey i have the same problem of the mouse pointer going nuts. Not just dissapearing but it becomes larger and it is not were it is meant to be for instance you can have it pionting at the top of the screen but when you click it it's actually two inches from where you see it. in a lot of programs it disappears when it is crucial to see it, i have a video card it is the video highway xtreme card but i dont see how that could effect my mouse cause although it is in my pc winxp has not installed any drivers for it. i disabled videohighway anyway but to no avail. i found a good enough solution to the problem go to mouse pointer options and enables cursor trail and put it to the minimum. another thing that catches my attention is that i have the microsoft wheel optical mouse and other people with the same mouse have a similar problem. ANYONE GOT A PROPER SOLUTION. |

i give up with this s***...
do just what gadfly suggests at the top and it fixes the problem.
the only downside is that u dont get to see tv in the guideplus program itself.
but i didnt like that anyway... it kept fucking with the shows i was watching if i tried to check the listings while watching tv. whatever. later |
