that is a very respectable OC. The 2.4 ghz Northwood with the 800 mhz fsb are were and are great cpu's for overclocking. The only ones I can think of from that time period that were better was the lowe voltage xeons. But they are another can of worms all together. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! Nice! What cooler are you running now?
I can get my 2.8C to 3.6, but I run it at 3.4 pretty much 24/7. That's a nice 'clock you got goin' on there. Keep it up!
And BTW, welcome to TweakNews! |

when he asked about the cooler he means "what heatsink are you currently using?" _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

I've never seen a heatsink like that before, but a copper-based or heatpipe-equipped cooler will probably lower your CPU temps, if heat is what's holding you back.
Did you see any increase in memory performance when you changed the divider? If not, why did you change? Just curious.
What exactly is it that you'd like to know? Detailed specs of all your hardware, and the relevant temps and voltages will allow us to evaluate your situation. |

Are these load or idle temps? What is the ambient room temperature? What utility are you using to get these results? What power supply are you using? What case, fans and fan placement do you have? And, most importantly, what is it exactly that you would like to do/know? |

Nice OC. I got my old P4b 2.4 (533FSB) up to 3.6 (bit unstable but it booted into windows and ran 3dmark). I ran at 3.3 around the clock with no issues. Get some decent cooling and you should do well.
Oh, TH, the fan is not part of the HSF, it feeds air to the heatsink thru a collar
The fan is a case fan. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

yes these are idle temps ,room temps is about 72f ,i got the temps off of EVEREST Ultimate Edition ,and asus pc probe ,the PSU is a 400WATT Eagle ,the case i have is right on this link ( http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/reviews/cases/Antec_TX1050B_1.html ) but it has a side window ,i have five fans two in the back and two in the front of the tower and one in the heat sink , how can i get this to overclock more and to be stable |

OK, now we're getting somewhere. Is your system stable now? (Prime95 for at least 8 hrs.) You need to know what your load temps are to see if your temps are holding you back.
If you're stable now, then loosen up your memory timings as much as possible and start bumping up the FSB by 5 or so mhz and check for stability. OCCT is a good utility to get a quick and dirty feel for stability, but eventually you'll need to Prime it. Watch your temps closely! When you hit a wall, back off a few mhz and make sure you're stable.
At this point we can tweak it further, but you'll be pretty close to what your chip/memory will do.
Good Luck! |

| OK, temps look fine. Loosen your memory timings. You can then proceed with your overclock, bumping the FSB up by 5 mhz or so until you have stability issues. Leave the voltages alone for now, we may want increase them a bit later. Keep a running log of everything you do, so we can go back if necessary. |

Yes. You want these timings as loose as you can get them now, so that your timings don't interfere with your overclock. Value RAM like you have is not generally as overclock friendly as higher quality offerings. You may have to play with the memory divider to get maximum effort from your CPU, but we'll worry about that later.
Watch your temps! When 'clocking a P4C, I like to keep the temp below 60C (140F).
Remember to keep a log of your settings in case you need to reset CMOS. You can then go back to the last good setting without starting over.
I recommend using OCCT and SpeedFan (if your board is supported). This will give you a quick test (30 mins.) of your stability as you go. The charts that are generated are also helpful when troubleshooting problems that may arise.
You may want to google around and see how accurately your board reports temps and voltages. No board that I know of is 100% accurate, but some are better than others. |
