well, the x1900xt tend to be on the loud side, at least at post. after windows boots up, it seems, that its not that bad as long as you have average fan noise from case fans/psu/ect. if you have a liquid cooling setup or silent fans, you may notice it.

in answering your question directly, the vf900 definitely works, the 700 doesnt. if you decide on changing it out, though, you might void some warranties, you'd have to check with the manufacturer on that. keep in mind that if you do change stock cooling out for the zalman, the stock fans exhaust the heat out the back of the case, wheras the zalman just puts it back into the case. those suckers do put out a ton of heat, so unless you have good air ventilation, expect case temps to rise up a few degrees.

also, if you're interested, i know HIS puts out an iceq series x1900xt(x?) that has a modified arctic cooling silencer on it. supposed to be pretty quiet, very efficient, and exhausts heat out the back of the case.

i'd recommend going through newegg and doing some research through the specs and reviews, and using pricegrabber or the like and finding the best price

good luck and p.s. the x1900xt's use a crap load of power... make sure there's at least 30amps on the 12v rails of the power supply its gonna be used on.
