Back a couple of months ago, I did a complete reformat, and started getting the annoying little "no connection to the internet is currently available" error box, with "work offline and "try again buttons. Clicking "try again works, of course. It went away after awhile, not sure why. Just one day, it stopped popping up.

Yesterday, I tried to update the driver for my Ultra 100 TX2 IDE card, which didn't work for some reason. Anyway, since I reinstalled the older driver, I've been getting the damn "no connection" popup again, and much more frequently. If I let my mouse sit still for more than a minute, then hover over an ad banner or such, it pops up.

I know there was an MS fix somewhere for the problem, but I can't find it.............this happens in both IE and Firefox BTW.

Have you run a spyware/adware remover lately? Also, in IE, go to options, connections and tell it never to dial a connection. If I understand your problem right that should fix it.

Spyware and virus scans run automatically every morning at 4am, all clear. I'm on broadband, so I don't have a dialup connection configured.........."never dial a connection" isn't an available option for me.

Apparently it was just a corrupted temp internet file. Cleared everything out of both IE and FireFox, no more error box.

Ahh, those damn temp files can be a bugger.
Good to see you're sorted.
