If you have an ATI card, or are looking at buying one, there is a glitch with the Catalyst Control Panel and MS's .NET Framework 2.0. The drivers work fine, but the Control Panel hangs at startup, and will not load.

It works fine with .NET Framework 1.1, though, and ATI is aware of the problem and working on it. If you're having the problem, just uninstall .NET Framework 2.0 for now, and reinstall 1.1.

Yip, ran into that a few days ago....here's what I did. Loaded the last version (5.11) that didn't require .net services.

I'm not sure why ATI stopped giving the "old" control panel as an option. I've never really cared for the Catalyst thingy. Oh well..........not like I ever look at it, anyway.

Read the post.

Catalyst Control Panel won't start. The driver is fine, the controls just won't load for advanced adjustment.

yea sorry guys... I guess I didn't install it. I haven't seen anything lagging on startup. Unless its that ATI Control Center, then I dont see anything wrong...

I should be clearer....... for a bunch of nerds, you guys sure can be dense..... *grin*

The ATI Catalyst Control Center locks up WHEN YOU START THE CONTROL CENTER, not the computer.

just go to omega drivers. I did and what a difference. I left the ATI ones on there when I installed omega so I still have the drivers for the tv tuner and stuff.

So you didn't uninstall the Catalyst drivers first? You just installed the Omega's over the Catalyst? I wouldn't think that would be the best thing to do.

Do the Omega drivers include the AIW tv tuner bits? If not, then you're fine.........it's not a great idea to just overwrite the old drivers, but it's not instant death, either. I believe, if you wanted, you could use the regular TV Wonder drivers if you wanted to do a clean install..........have to research that.

yup... ATI's WDM drivers for the AIW have to be installed separately. They can be found at the ATI site under the individual downloads for slow internet users... doesn't matter what speed you have just get the WDM drivers and they will cooperate fine.
