PostPosted: Fri Dec 23, 2005 4:26 pm    Post subject: Finally Getting My Motherboard. Reply with quote

Back in November I purchased a Presale board for the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard. I Have been waiting patiently (the seller allowed me to hold onto my money at least), I have finally recieve confirmation that I will be getting it sometime next week. Which means my 4400+ X2 and 2gb's of Ram with my 7800GT's will finally have a mother to nurcher their every gripe and complaint with ease.

Anyone else getting their hands on it or HAVE this board?

It was a while ago I went to Fry's Electronics to get one but they didn't have it when I got there. I have been playing with the idea of getting one of those boards and building a Optie 170 system using that mobo.

I have heard very good things from the people that have them. Very easy to overclock and great performance.

Heres some photos... I got it in today, well I missed the 11am delivery, but I work for UPS anyway so I just picked it up at work.

Now all I have to do is order me a CPU and I can finally put my xp120 and 7800GT to good use.

for building the power hungry rig you are I would be leery of the 4 rails with 15 amps on each. Granted FSP usually underrates their psu's but those 12v rails don't have enough juice on them. Take this from someone who found out the limits of a Turbo Cool 510 SLI and had to upgrade to a 1k psu.

If I was building your same system I would go with either the 850 or 1k PC P&C. Or if that is out of the question then I would be looking at this one. The heavier 12v rails will be able to carry the system better rather than having the 12v current spread across more rails. Just my $.02.

One thing I noticed- both the 600w and 700w models have the same current ratings on all the rails- wtf? Maybe a typo.

I really like my 500w FSP. Voltage is always on point, quiet, sleeved leads and plenty of them. I think it should handle your system. Nothing against the PC P&C supplies, but the prices on them are insane, imo.

Agreed on the amp ratings. Depending on how the FSP combines the rails (if it does), 15a isn't going to be enough. 18a minimum is what I'd be looking for.

Sandness, yeah, the PC&C are expensive, but you get what you pay for, in quality, customer service, warranty, all that jazz. You can also have them custom-wired for your rig if you choose. When I build a new rig this summer, an 850 is in my list.

Yeah but I cant simply drop more on the power supply then what I paid the cpu. Thats another $500 for the 850w PC P&C, I figured since one of those 15a rails plugs directly into the mother board for better stability that the 15a would be just fine. (its a nice little feature on this a8n32 that makes sure the 12v stays stable when the vid cards dont have the 6-pin aux input)

Let me know what you guys think.

for a modern system, especially one with a DC cpu and a high end video card, I wouldn't install a psu with a relatively low amperage rating on the 12v rail(s). Granted there are four in this case, but you can't take from one rail to add to another. As you may have one rail that needs to supply 18 amps and another that only needs to pump 3 amps. You can't use the extra from one to add to the other. The psu may be SLI certified but I wouldn't trust my high dollar parts to it.

Bottom line is I wouldn't trust it. I offered other choices, and not just PC P&C. You asked us about the psu and we have laid down what we think.

the rails are rated at 14a, 18a, 17a, 13a

I think I would go with the 620 watt. Im still on the search though.

those rails would look better if they combine the 13 and 14 for the direct feed to the mobo. But otherwise it doesn't look good for a high powered gaming rig.

yeah didnt think so. Im just trying to find out if all this is even true for my motherboards sake. Im still wondering if I need 18a+ rails with that aux mobo connector.

yes. That single molex isn't going to be enough to make up for any shortcomings on the part of the psu.
