I have setup an overclock with the following specs:
P4 2.8 GHz @ 3.079 GHz
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Radeon 9800 Pro
CPU External Freq: 220
DRAM Freq: 400
AGP: 66/33
VCore Voltage: 1.625
DDR Voltage: 2.75
AGP Voltage: 1.5
Performance Mode: Auto
Does this sound reasonable? I am not very familiar with Pentium processors and motherboards so I want to confirm that I don't have something very wrong here. Also, what do you use to test a HT processor? Is it possible to have two instances of Prime95 running? I used Prime95 and Folding@Home but I would think that there is a better way.
Thanks for the help and setup confirmation. _________________ Pentium D 805 2.6 @ 3.8GHz

That processor should do that fairly easily. It sounds as if you have this OC already and just want to test it. In that case, yes run two instances of the prime95 torture test. That should shake it down. When doing an initial OC, I suggest using the bootable memtest to get an indication of stability before booting into windows. This is real handy because a lot of oc failures are memory related, and you can hose an OS real quick.
You may want to read around the forum a bit, a lot of this has been covered, as well as a few little tricks to help. And, watch those temperatures. _________________ .

Thanks for the help. I ask because I had done an overclock on a different system which I thought was correct and turned out to be very wrong. The system is set to the settings above right now. We didn't push it much higher because we couldn't keep the temps down. I think the owner is more interested in stability then the most speed he can get. Thanks for the memtest idea, I'll try that one out, I think his OS is hosed because there wasn't enough going to vcore. We're going to wipe the drive and start over.
Thanks again,

If he's interested purely in stability, then ditch the overclocking. Easy answer, there..........
OC'ing really isn't something I'd consider for a stable build. That proc should run at a very very stable 3.0ghz, if you like even numbers, and I have mine running at 3.2ghz stable, no worries.............but I don't mind the occasional crash. It's also my machine, so if I bork it, nobody can yell at me.
If it's not your rig, I wouldn't be messing with it too much, honestly, and like I said, if the owner is more interested in stability, then put it at stock, and leave it be. Even careful tweakers can hose a system pretty easily, after all.......happens here once in awhile.
Just some cautionary advice, there. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

If it crashes it's not what I call stable. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

You know what I mean.......if I screw up getting it that far, or go too far to find the limits. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
