Digital Camcorder Advice

Want to buy a camcorder for the holidaze. I know next to nothing about these things. Must be able to take good quality movies of indoor sporting events.
Still photos not really an issue. Would be willing to go up to $700.

Help me out here, y'all. Particularly interested in personal experiences rather than specs.

we purchased a Panasonic about 16-17 months ago and have been very please with it. Easy to use and a nice compact design. I will have to wait to get home to get the model number and all the other info.

I've been looking at the PV-GS250 by Panasonic.

the one we have is like the PV-GS19 but it's older so I think it has a 20x zoom rather than the 24x. But looks the same.

The one you are looking at would be a very sweet cam indeed.
