I have also have an X800 XT All-In-Wonder card and was experiencing the same thing. The registry fix worked for me too.

You'd think after 2 and a half years ATI would fix this problem.

I have no ideah how you figured this out, but I'm glad you did.

Thanks!!!

Very Happy

Yessss!!!! The registry fix worked for me too! You rock!

I am glad I found this site. ATI just doesn't seem to care.

This problem has apparently plagued many many people, from what I have seen posted on the web.

I have an All in Wonder 9600xt and it seems fine now.

Thanks a lot!

I'm running Win2k Pro with an ATI AIW 9700. Same bs cursor problem with gemstar. After reading the reg solution I tried it myself. The Win2k folder was differently named, but it was pretty easy to find in regedit. I tried the display value 4 to 3 fix & something kept resetting it to 4 when I opened Guide++. Tried changing the value to 2, and was a bad troubleshooter and also changed the "FS Autohide" parameter from 1 to 0. Problem solved! However, since I changed two variables I'm not sure which one was the fix. I did notice that the values stopped getting reset after I changed both variables, so I'm not messing with it anymore. Ah, precarious perfection...

Okay, I’ve been experiencing this disappearing cursor/pointer problem for some time too:

I have XP Pro, Intel IV 2.80 GHz, AIW 9000, Logitech Cordless Kb & Mouse, and with both an Administrator profile and a User profile. This problem does not seem to exist when using my Administrator profile even though it does exist on the User profile at the same time.

I believe that this problem is caused by the Remote Wonder TV “on/off” functions. Using my mouse and/or keyboard to switch the TV on and off and then subsequently using the Remote Wonder for the other functions seems to prevent the problem from rearing its ugly head. Before trying the above, I did switch my Remote Wonder USB receiver from USB 1.1 to USB 2; it seemed to work fine until I remember using the Remote “on/off” functions. In order to use it this way, the problem needs to be corrected first and I found that reinstalling everything from the driver to the software to be more time consuming than doing the following:

The quickest way I have found to fix the problem although not permanently is to first save the User profile data in another location. Then working as the Administrator, delete the User profile along with their files (because you have secured the same somewhere else) via the Control Panel. If you decide to delete the User profile via the Computer Management ‘Local Users & Groups’ console then you will have to delete the User profile/files separately via the System Properties, Advanced tab, User profiles settings. Restart the computer and then create a new User, it can be the same name as before and then you can reapply the configuration settings. I prefer working from scratch instead of copying during the configuration just because I didn’t want to chance reapplying the setting(s) that may have caused the problem in the first place.

By the way I did also try reapplying SP2, and then using a keyboard and mouse with cords, but without successfully fixing this problem. I hope that my suggestions are helpful to some of you, and may even shed more light on finding the ultimate permanent solution to this glitch. Unfortunately, the registry hack suggested earlier does not work for me.

Carlos.

Hey, on the subject of Remote Wonder, mine crashes randomly (atirw.exe) when using the mouse function, as well as while the cpu is sleeping. Sometimes it just quits w/o any error msg., but leaves the icon in the tray until moused over. You ever get anything like that? (Win2K Pro). As far as the Guide++ cursor goes, my fix still seems to be working. Which is fine as far as I'm concerned, seeing as how ATI has written off 2K and now only updates MMC & Guide for XP. Wankers...

No because now I keep my use of the Remote Wonder to a minimum - which really defeats the advantage of having the thing. I find that using it to change the channels and for selecting the previously viewed channel as well as sometimes initializing the Guide+ software keeps my system problem free. I have tried the mouse feature via the remote, but stopped when I experienced the problems. Anyway as you say, ATI/Gemstar is no longer catering to W2K, I'm not sure they're even catering to any other O/S even XP.

Gday.

Hello,

Check out my response "Posted: Tue Aug 01, 2006 9:38 am" under the same subject. Since I've stopped using the RemoteWonder for on/off functions, I've no longer experienced this problem. I wish they would just fix the myriads of problems at ATI and partners with their software. All we can hope for at this point is that the US company bidding for the takeover of yet another Canadian company will fix it all or start fresh.

Hope this helps.

Carlos.
