Anyone tryed out Corsair''s or Kinston's new DDR500 ram? I am debating wether to get that or some slower ram. Is it overkill?

I have a gig of the Kingston stuff here. I haven't gotten a chance to do anything with it yet. It mainly depends on what type of system you have and your CPUs overclocking capabilities. I have used some OCZ PC3700 Gold and it does 520 stable at 2-7-3-3.

You ask is it overkill but that depends what your doing. Are you overclocking? You should be able to run at high FSBs at tight timings with DDR500 because its already rated to the speed. So if you had DDR400 and overclocked it for say for example 225FSB you would probably have to use slack timings to keep stable.

If you are going over 200FSB then DDR500 should do you justice.

eli, you pose an interesting question. Is DDR500 overkill? Probably, but to let you know...I am way ok with overkill when it comes to computers. I prefer lower latencies to higher memory speeds. However, it is part of man's curiousity to his and his machines limits. With that in mind, just how fast do you want your computer to go? Right now we are seeing DDR500 selling and functioning at the advertised rating, but how soon will we see DDR533? I am hoping for this in the not to distant future, especially since Samsung has succeeded in .10 micron production. Whether it is used for DDR or only the upcoming DDRII, I don't know.
