|
|
| I just installed an nVidea GeForce FX5500 AGP card, booted up and it seems to be working fine. The problem is that it is showing up as a PCI card instead of AGP. I ran the Everest system information tool and it showed that AGP was disabled. What is the best way to enable AGP? I also went into Device Manager and the video card is not showing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Point your bios to look for AGP video first, and disable onboard if exists
We'll work on the Device mngr after you point your Bios to AGP _________________

Obvious question.......did you install the drivers? If you've never had an AGP card before, you don't have AGP drivers installed. It'll do what you're seeing, and show it as a PCI card. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

| Yea, I did install the newest drivers from nVidea. The card I had before was an AGP card. |

there are some mobos that require that you reinstall AGP drivers and remove your old video card drivers completely from the system. _________________ P4 3.2ghz

| Well my board is an ECS N2U400-A. I also used DriverCleaner Pro to clean up the old drivers before I installed the new ones. Are you familiar with this board and if so do you know if I have to install AGP drivers? |

I'm not familiar with DriverCleaner Pro, but what it sounds like to me is you wiped out the mobo's AGP drivers. I don't mean the nVidia drivers, I mean the chipset drivers that enable AGP.
Find your mobo CD, and reinstall the AGP driver from that CD. Since it's an nForce 2 chipset, it'll be an all-in-one thing.
Did you format your computer sometime recently, and not reinstall the chipset drivers? _________________ Big enough to scare you |

| It appears the nVidea chipset drivers are installed. And if the AGP drivers are included in the chipset drivers then it should be enabled, unless the AGP drivers are not included. Is there anyway to check what is included in the chipset drivers? |

In your BIOS, under Advanced Chipset Features, make sure AGP 8X is enabled. If it's not, your mobo won't recognize the card.
The video driver should be included in the nForce Chipset Driver downloads. Make sure you have the latest version.........go to www.ecsusa.com, and do a search for your model. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
