Okay guys this is freaking me out.
There is this place i play at which is called ESEA E-Sports Entertainment Association which you pay $6 a month to play CS 1.6 with other members and with pro's. Well they have this client that detects cheats and somehow i got banned because of the client. I talked to the support staff and they said that the account that was banned for cheating was used under my ip but i have never heard of the account that was banned and they said i was logged under it 5 times. How can this be possible? did someone get my ip and use it cause they hacked me or used a proxey or what? This is really freaking me out. |

It is entirely possible you did get hacked and your IP was being passed through. What kind of security do you have on your netwak and PC?
Also, i guess someone could have been spoofing it...and you just got unlucky. _________________

Firewall on a router isn't good enough, if you've allowed your IP to be open on certain ports. You need both software and hardware firewalls (router, and, say, ZoneAlarm). The hardware firewall will prevent DoS attacks, while the software firewall will help prevent IP hijacks, notify you of incoming pings you didn't authorize, etc etc.
Also keep in mind that your server "association" might not be the most secure. I would agree, that you got pinged while online, your IP logged, then the security at that server was low enough for somebody to harvest it and spoof, using your IP.
I would do a thorough trojan scan, though, to make sure your machine is clear of backdoors. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
