PC130 ????? never heard of it...
Those beeps mean no memory found I believe. It varies from different BIOS's, but I think 4 is memory and 3 is video board. (not found)
May need to re-seat vid board and/or memory, and reset bios...ASSUMING that "whatever" you put in there didn't screw it up.
ALSO...always remove power cord from a computer before doing anything to the innards of it....what I mean is: do not just turn it off with the button, because some power is still on...be safe and always unplug the thing. _________________ .

Maybe he meant PC100............and it kinda depends on the mobo. Usually it's fine.
However, you can't mix the two, it's either PC133 or PC100, not both. You can get away with that on newer DDR systems, but old PC133/100 systems would puke if you put both in. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

if you had pc133 to begin with make sure your FSB on your CPU is NOT 133 if it IS then you need AT LEAST pc133 to make it run, Usually on a Pentium 3 system.
But like they said ^^^ it varies, between motherboards, and systems. _________________ Remember When Sex was safer than racing???

Did you put it back in the proper slot? Again, newer mobos don't care, but older ones needed the RAM in the first slot.
Did you put it in all the way? Dumb question, but I've done that one myself......thought it was in, and it wasn't. And no jokes about my dating life either.
I'm hoping you unplugged everything, including the power, and didn't just jam it in with AC power connected.......even off, if you have any static charge built up, it'll blow right through your hand, through the RAM, and out the power ground........damaging anything in the way.
Reset your CMOS. If you can't find the jumper, then just remove the coin cell battery for 5 minutes or so.
Make sure you didn't unseat anything else, like your vid card, while you were banging around in there. It's easy to do, and a half-plugged in PCI or AGP card will cause things to go wierd. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

If the power was turned on, the "surge" when the power suddenly hit the RAM would fry it instantly. Plus, since it never goes in exactly straight, you would have short-circuited every connector on the stick........
Static discharge will do the same thing. The typical "shock" (one you can see a small spark from, like scuffing across carpet and touching a doorknob) is 300 volts, and often higher. You tell ME what would happen to your RAM, video card, processor...... _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Not necessarily. It really depends on what you touch, and if you left it plugged in.........and the power on...........it could have damaged just about everything inside the case. It's all connected, ya know.
Please, please tell me you didn't stick the RAM in while the machine was plugged in and powered up................. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Like we said, it depends on your machine.
If you mean "what can I put in my machine with a stick of PC133", nothing is compatible. You MUST use the same type of RAM. Not necessarily the same brand, but the same type. You cannot mix PC133 and PC100. Period.
However, if your board supports it, you can run PC100. Most did, and in this case, running 1gb PC100 is better than running 512 of PC133.
If you want to add to what you have, get the same type. That's all that will work. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
