i have a few questions on overclocking, my gigabyte motherboard came with the easy tune4 program for overclocking. i used it before and overclocked my cpu a little and it shows in the easy tune program that it worked but when i right clicked my computer and hit properties my cpu speed was still the same. should that stay the same even if i overclock. in the easy tune program it said my cpu was running faster. is anybody familiar with this program or another program that is better. i don't want to overclock my ram or my agp just my cpu. i have 512mb corsair valueselect ddr400 ram at dual channl and the gigabyte ga-8ik1100 motherboard and p4 2.4ghz 800fsb.
thanks

wcpuid seems to be a good program for reading your "actual" CPU speed:

Lots of folks seem to use it.

Always do your overclocking through the bios for maximum stability and therefore you can reference the overclock on the boot screen.

I just posted my problems with the same motherboard. I tried the easytune4 proggie and had the exact same problems. I basically just used that program as a reference for my actual overclock attempts in the bios. If you get your bus spd overclocked past 220 let me know. This board is giving me a heck of a lot of problems. I should have just dropped another 40 bucks and picked up the Abit IC7-G.

You guys need to do some research before you just start playing with settings in the BIOS. You need to raise the memory voltage, you need to raise the cpu voltage to 1.550, you need to set your memory timings correctly and a whole bunch more before you go out overclocking.

Never use a windows based overclocking tool.

They are unstable, unreliable and will freeze the instant something goes a little too high.

Do some reading around on this motherboard and see what other people thought about the board.

I poked around the internet reading reviews on this motherboard. Every one I came across has said, great board if your looking for extra features, attractive price, complete impression, but very unstable overclocking. When I bought this board I was under the impression that it was a great board for overclocking.
