Hey Everyone!

I have a small problem with some of my programs, such as KazaaLite, eating up too much of my computer memory. When a program like KazaaLite is downloading even as little as one file, it uses up to 98% of my CPU memory. Is there any way to lower this so that I will not lag when I try to run other programs alongside KazaaLite? (FYI: I run a Windows XP Professional computer).

Thank you!

Maybe try getting the latest version of Kazaa Lite.

And yes, if you are running a virus scanner in the background while downloading etc. this will eat a lot of CPU resources.

The TN guys know best, but justto be safe I would double check to see if there are any hidden processes running (spyware S&D?). I have heard of Kazaa being a T-Horse for people wanting your CPU.

also keep in mind that there is a difference between "memory" usage and using processor resources.
if you have large page file amounts being utilized, then memory would be right, but if you are looking at the "performance" tab under the task manager, then what you are looking at is the percentage of cpu cycles that applications are utilizing.

you give no description of your PC, but if it happens to have an intel with cpu throttling enabled, you might want to try disabling it....and keep an eye on what apps are listed in the startup under msconfig.

kaza of any sort, lite or not...is not really a good idea....the spyware is likely to be resident, but the adware might be removed....there are many other options that do better, but aren't as likely to target users for trojans.....

just my .02

Thanks for all the answers.

Let me tackle the additional questions one by one.

-First off, I do not have a virus scanner that runs in the background; instead, I fully scan my entire computer with the newest version of Norton (the Anti-Virus Professional Edition one) every three days or so.
-I do not have spywares or any adwares that I am aware of. I run Lavasoft's best version (professional, I think) of their Ad-Aware program every week.
-And yes, I do have the newest version of KazaaLite.
-CPU Throttling is already unabled on my Intel board.

Let's get our minds off KazaaLite for a second here. I mainly asked my original questions because I wanted to know if there is anything I can do when a program, any program, eats up too much of my memory.

Thanks,

Kazaa in general takes up CPU usage cuz of downloads, it will lag, it sometiems lags my programs on my XP2000+, so it's normal. Though i kno ram will help a bit, but not too much, it just depends wat you use kazaa for, if u dload big files, then yeh, mroe ram will help, but if you don't download lots of big files, it should be fine. Just keep an eye on your uploads, downloads is a minor problem. If you want to get rid of spywares that other programs that might have been causing the problem, i suggest you to dload Adaware from CNET or something, and just delete stuff that is just there to slow you down.

*WARNING: do not delete everything, cuz there might be some registry files you MIGHT need..just pay close attention to the file names.*

if you have other questions bout it, let us kno, i'm sure we are all looking forward in helping you solve the cause of the problem!

Rejoice;
Cyrus

OK, so you have the software installed, but just not set up to do any "real time" scanning, corrcet?
Well, that does not mean that it isn't still running as a background service

OK...first you have to be more clear...what makes you think a program is "eating up too much memory"...what is it that you observe?

and what type of internet access do you have?
