I have an xplod M630 headunit, 2200gtx sony xplod amp, and a 12" V-Max Cerwin Vega Sub. i have it sitting in the back of my 89 accord, facing the front with the back seats down! anyways, my amp is overheating like a mad man, so bad in fact that i mounted two 90mm case fans to the top of the amp and wired it through the amps remote and ground. All i need to do is tune the amp down, ive blown one sub (thank god for warranty) and then i tuned it just straight down for fear of blowing another one, anyone have an amp tuning guide or some specs that you could just tell me to set it to, any hints or anything would be excellent. Power input for my sub can handle 300W RMS and 800W Peak 4ohm. My amp specs are 1200 watts max power 200 watts x 2 RMS into 4 ohms 500 watts x 1 RMS into 4 ohms Built-in variable LPF (low-pass filter) and bass-boost circuit (up to +10 dB at 40 Hz) Measures 15.75 x 2.25 x 10.9 inches (W x H x D). My sub is bridged to the amp aswell. should i just unbridge it and turn the amp way up? lol i hate being a car audio n00b.

Do you have the amp connected to the subwoofer port off of the deck?

Set you equalizer to FLAT. Turn up the high frequencies if you want.

Turn off all bass boost.

Hook the sub directly to the bridged connections.

Turn the sub level down.

Aight, my deck EQ is flat, my sub is already connected to the bridge, the level setting on the sub can be turned from 5 to 1, 1 being the highest currently set at 3, with my amp bass gain set to full (even though i KNOW it shouldnt be) im not getting the bass i know i should be! and i dont think i should have to get anohter amp because it cant handle the power output, because it DEFINANTLY should infact it should be able to handle full level settings and full boost bridged, its the sub that shouldnt be able to handle it!

Never set the bass boost to full. It just over does it.

You are just overdoing it with the bass settings.

did you turn the LOUD and bass boost functions off on the deck?

The loud and bass boost are off on the deck completly, and its the gain i have turned up to +40db which i already know is too high, but i have the level way down so it only kicks in when i turn my system way up.

Sony Xplod amps are not exactly known for providing any great amount of bass power anywayz. And they are always prone to over-heating. Well, in the UK at least.

Well, I can see one obvious problem to start. Your sub is too weak for the amp. Your sub handles 800w peak, the Xploder puts out a peak wattage of aroun 1100w. So if you turn up the volume, you'll blow another sub. If anything, the sub should handle a bit more power than the amp produces.

Second problem is your gain vs. level setting. Your Xplode doesn't have a peak LED (I don't think), but what you're doing is clipping the amp heavily at the input side, which is causing the built-in compression to squash the output level. Bring the output up to about 3/4 (if it has one) and bring the gain DOWN to either 50% or 0 (unity, in geek speek). Lowering the gain will keep the compression from kicking in, then bringing the level up will give you a cleaner, fuller bass response.

Then again, like the other guys said.........it IS a Sony...........

Just because the amp is 1200W max and the sub is 800W peak, turning the volume up will not necessarily blow the sub up. It is all about tweaking the amp gain to a reasonable level.
