Apparantly its possible now with this neat little device
http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=54&l3=0&model=467&modelmenu=1
It only works on select ASUS mobos but it uses the 875 chipset and all its functions!!
I think I may take a look into this in the near future _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

There are motherboards that use the 915 chipset that offers those features as well. But those boards cost about $300US. I think that its AOpen that makes them. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Yep, AOpen makes P-M desktop boards, but as far as I know, they're 855 chipsets.............I don't think they've made one based on the 915, but I'm a little out of the loop these days.............they could have released one yesterday. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

The PMs should come down in price as intel begins their phase out of the P4 and go to the PM as a desktop chip. I heard about the phase out, just forgot where. I wonder when the new souped up PIII (called P5) will come out. _________________ P4 3.2ghz

What are talking about?
The P-M's you are seeing on the desktop are because of the motherboard manufacturers catering to this demand. Not because of any support by Intel.
They arent going to use the P-M for the desktop.
They are going to use some of the things learned on the P-M for the next desktop chip. But its going to be a dualcore 65 nm 64-bit cpu. The P-M is going dualcore but doesnt support 64bit. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Somebody posted here awhile back (FtR, I think) saying that the P4 was dead, which was incorrect.
Like Weaz said, the P-M is only being used in desktops because AOpen and Asus are making boards that support it. Intel doesn't support it in any way as a "desktop" proc.
As far as the next-gen chip, it'll likely use some of the power saving features of the P-M, and I understand Netburst is probably being replaced by a new setup, but that's about it. It'll still be (probably) an LGA775 chip, still be 90% "P4" design, and likely will have an improved memory controller (I'm guessing it'll probably be an on-board design, similar to AMD. There's been some low-flying rumors about that.) The dual core setup will be slightly different as well, but only in physical construction of the cores. It is NOT going to be a "souped up P3", by any means. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
