I am very upset with my graphics card, and I was wondering if you guys could help me. It just has bad performance. I downloaded the newest drivers, and the ATI control panal, and made many adjustments, and it helped a little, but my geforce 2 ti performed better. In games like counter-strike, it performs to slow, and to choppy. any suggestions?

Thanks

What adjustments did you make?

Seeing that you are rather green to the computer hardware configuration crowd, I would watch what do are changing if you don't know what you are doing.

Where are you stating the poor performance is coming from or what games were you testing it on?

You need to give us more information other than your driver install to see what the problem is.

Ok, I know what I am doing, because I have researched all of the things witch I adjusted. I am testing it on counter-strike, UT2003, and Medal of Honor. Medal of Honor and UT2003 had better performance, but not at all up to par, it was choppy, and in parts, quite laggy. I dont really know what more to say, except I am very dissapointed, should I try installing the older drivers that came with my card?

Thanks!

Do you have it set to 4 or 8x AGP in your bios?

What is your AGP aperature size?

Do you have anything running in the background while you are playing these games?

In my bios my aperature size is 128mb, which is right. In my bios, I dont really have an option to choose between agp 4x and 8x, but theres an option to enable or disable agp 8x. I have it enabled in the bios, and in the ATI control panal

Set everything in the control panel to defaults and see if the problem is still there.

Unless it is overheating, I would have to think that you have a defective videocard and would suggest returning it to the retailer you bought it from.

Don't worrry, this happens from time to time. :)

Ok. I already contacted googlegear about that, and I will get a geforce 4 Ti 4200. how many defected ATI Radeon 9500's are there, I mean come on, when you spend that much on a video card, they should be a little more reliable!

Bud, in the electronics industry, things like this happen. Do not blame the card. Seeing the handling it has gone through and all the shipping, a defective card is not an uncommon occurence.

I have also seen Ti4200's coming in defective as well. All cards of all types of all manufacturers have a couple that have problems. Do not blame ATI or their cards, I have tested and used over 10 different models and never had one problem.

Ya, I guess your right. It's just as you say it rarely happens, and it happened to me. Oh well, my It will all work out with googlegear.com, and I'll get my MSI geforce 4 Ti 4200.

I will let you know how the geforce 4 Ti performs, thanks for your support!

not that I claim to know exactly what your problem is, but do not limit your tweaking to the video....a small or even sometimes windows default virtual memory file can cause issues....the way the drives are configured on your IDE chains....using block transfer mode....disabling verticle sync.....defragin like a monster.....sound and video settings in the games....are all but a small list of things to go through and chack one by one...
Personally, I think that "ATI" stands for "Another Trashed Installation"....BUT there are many poeple who swear by these cards.

Don't expect to learn everything in the first month or two....it takes a bit of time.

Thanks DMW, and as you said, yes I dont expect to learn these things until a month or so! Man a lot of things. O well, I am just sending the card in today, and getting a MSI geforce 4 Ti 4200, which is all i really need. About the vertical synchronizing thing. That was very annoying to. I adjusted that to the when I put it to the best settings, it was very slow, and hard on my eyes. Your completely right about all those things, I wish this would of worked out, but Nvidia is a good choice I think. I will let you know how it all goes, and what my 3DMark01se score is!

Thanks

O, sorry, one other thing. If you have a digital LCD, like me, why do you have to have the RGB and the DVI cable in at the same time? does the DVI cable just act like a booster?

They do not have to be in at the same time.
