This is one of the few options in the BIOS i have no idea over what it "actually" does.

Reading the motherboard guide etc didnt open my eyes. Its one of those settings where i dont know whats good whats bad and HOW it affects the system...if at all.

(awaits 2O or weazel to respond )

It basically throttles down the GHz/MHz of the CPU by a certain percentage when it over heats

Gosh, I hope somebody else knows more than me on this one. Yep, Yosh pretty well hit it on the head. I don't know what the settings mean on your mobo. I'm sure somebody here knows. But, I was under the impression that in XP the OS will throttle the cpu back when not being utilized.

It's confusing, thanks to Abit..........

What Thermal-Throttling in the Abit boards is this:

The percentage you choose affects how fast the proc is running in suspend to RAM mode. It has absolutely no effect on normal operation. Basically, all it does is determine how much CPU is being used while your computer is in Sleep mode. The lower the percentage, the more power saved.

It's not the same as Intel's Thermal Monitor, which cuts the CPU power back if it gets too hot. Abit's Thermal Throttling only matters if you put your computer to sleep, instead of shutting it off. A lower number will mean your computer will take more time to "wake up" from sleep mode, a higher number will start it up faster.

50% is fine, just leave it there. If you never use sleep mode (suspend to RAM), then you can set it wherever you like, it makes no difference.

Out of interest, how? (and to make sure you are talking about Suspend, not Hibernate, right?)
