I am wondering about these: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2,CONTENTID=9372
200 watts RMS, 40 each for the satellites and 120 for the sub. Are these any good? I have integrated sound on an ABIT IS-7 mobo. I am getting these for about 200 canadian dollars. I have quite a bit of music. This is my first post here so dont be too harsh on me |

They sound pretty good. They should they are THX certified after all. But I feel that they are lacking in the midrange and midbass though. If it is at all possible got to a local retailer and listen to them. Everyone has a different ear for speakers. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

Thanks for the reply.
Today I went to the store and had a listen, and they sound pretty darn good. But I also noticed that the Z-5300 was the same price! To be honest, I thought that the 2.1 system was alot better than the 5.1, the sub on that was too raspy. I have heard about these Klipsch 2.1 ProMedia, these are a little more than the Logitech ones, are they any better? If it helps, I listen to rap, hip-hop, and my dad likes classical. The guy at the store recommended some 100 dollar Altec Lansing speakers, with 40 RMS watts. He said that those were the same if not better than the Logitech ones. ???
Thanks for your help guys. |

I'm with G$ on this one, the 5300's are amazing speakers for the price, and kick the pants off any Altec-Lansing kit that I've ever heard .
that salesman probably has a shizload of overstock on the Altec stuff _________________ Yeah....... ok |

The Klipsch are a very good set of speakers. They are the ones I prefer to use for my home audio needs, both computer and Home Theater. I find that their somputer speakers give a better overall sound for music listening. If you have the extra $ then I would go for the Klipsch. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So now if I decided to go with the Z-5300s, then would I need a proper sound card to go with it? What would be a reasonable price to pay for an Audigy 2 ZS? Would the integrated sound give me good enough 3d audio in games? I can get the Audigy 2 ZS for about 98.50 bucks CDN.
Thanks again. |

Uh Oh. Now I also have the option of the z5500, the 500RMS watt ones. They are about 367 CDN. Worth the extra? Now on my mobo I do have the digital out, how good it is I do not know...
Thanks guys. |

Now you are Definately talking THUMPAGE
I have the Z-5500's on my desk right now, and they are very impressive.
The subwoofer is a thing of beauty....if you have the cash, get them, you will not regret it.
some people will tell you the bass is boomy, and some recordings may show that, but it's EASILY fixed with a few taps of the Sub Volume button on the remote.
if you plan on playing rap and hip-hop through them, make sure the pictures on your walls are securely mounted....I have to straighten mine all the time _________________ Yeah....... ok |

Ok. I have decided to go with the Audigy 2 ZS and the z-5500. Now, all I have to do is clear out all of the crap in the corner of my room, get a desk that will hold them, and then crank it! I probably wont be getting these for a couple of weeks, but when I do, coming from a 20 RMS watt 2.1 system, I think I will be quite satisfied. Also I am getting a Digital Coax for the system. Hehe.

What....???
Can I just connect the digital coax out from the Audigy 2 ZS to the sub with a monster cable, and get 5.1? |

| Will there be any quality loss with that adapter thing? If I used the regualar analog signal, would it still be in 5.1 surround sound in movies? What features do I gain? |

there would be no loss of quality using the adapter.
I use mine in the 6 channel direct mode, as some games don't support digital surround, and switching cables all the time is a pain, and I can not tell the difference between analog and digital connections.
the only difference is where the dolby/DTS decoding is done, I let my Audigy do it, a coax connection would be letting the Z-5500's do the decoding. _________________ Yeah....... ok |

Thanks for all your help guys. Here's the rundown.
Today, I have scheduled to clean out the corner of the room. Then, I should get the desk sometime this week, like thursday. Then, I should go get the speakers next weekend, or the weekend after. After doing some research, I have found out how to get them for 335 CDN. Crazy deal.
Thanks again.
PS I decided to go with just the straight analog cables. Should be fine. |

The only other reason to use coax with the Logi's is if you're experiencing interference from electrical cords near the cables from the soundcard to the sub. Or, if you live in a neighborhood like I used to, next to a busy interstate, with truckers that used linear amps on their CB's. Nothing like having Jim-Bob-Joe-Boy hockin' a loogie right in the middle of your favorite song, at ear-splitting volumes.............
Seriously........the CB signals were so strong sometimes, they'd turn on the touch-lamp I had next to my bed. One minute it's nice and dark, the next, the lamp would come on full-force, and I'd have to unplug it to reset the touch circuit. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

I dont think that is going to happen to me because I live in a nearly deserted neighboorhood next to a large park.
One last question before I put these on order: How do I put the rear channels behind me on speaker stands? I read that you can unscrew the base, but I am not sure... |

I have no clue how to edit the posts...
I read on a very long 48 page thread about these that there is the older version with the permanant speaker cables, and there is the newer version with the speaker wire like the z-680. I also found out that there seems to be no way to tell which version it is. Does anybody know how to tell the difference without opening it up? |

there is no way to tell, but since most online vendors simply have them shipped directly from Logitech, as was the case with mine from newegg, (i got the newer version), you will not likely get the older ones _________________ Yeah....... ok |

Yay!
Got the Audigy 2 ZS. Man this thing makes my old crap speakers sound great. I went to futuershop and checked the speakers there, and they are the proper non-attached wires. I have read much about these and is it actually true that these will piss off your neighboors? And how do you put the rear 2 speakers on stands... I am at a loss...And what does RMA stand for?
Thanks for all your help guys. |
