|
i am looking for a motherborad for AMD athlon XP 2400 sockat A. i just bought the 1GB dual channel corsair value select ram, and it is not working as dual channel on my motherboard, because i believe my mobo SOYO KT400 ultra black dragon doesnt support dual channel ram. i use to have 512mb DDR2100 generic rams and use to get benchmark of 1700 on read and 600 on write on AIDA32. and now with 1 GB i get the same 1800 read and 520 write.which is no improvment at all. i havent seen any performace difference what so ever on my PC. so i thought it is because i dont have have dual channel motherboard. if by any chance i am doing something wrong. plz let me know . and if not plz some one tell me about a good and cheap motherboard. or any other suggestion . thaxxx _________________ ----------------------------------------

First, are you sure your BIOS is detecting the new RAM correctly? You might need to set it manually.
Second, what's the speed of your new RAM? If it's also 2100, you're not going to see any difference at all. If it's faster (DDR333/400) make sure your BIOS is detecting it properly. You might have to set your RAM speed manually.
Also, your AIDA32 program doesn't show real-world performance (and I believe it only works on the first RAM slot), so try SiSoft Sandra's memory benchmark, that'll give you a far better idea of where you sit. Going from 512mb to 1gb should net you at least a 40% improvement in real-world performance, and if that 1gb is also a faster speed.......
I don't care for AIDA, it's not particularly accurate. Try a benchie with Sandra, and see what it says. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

First thing first, u ask the new Ram speed. it is 1GB PC3200 corsair value pack. and i also i ran the benchmark on sandra as u said, and these are the numbers i got.
1732mb/s int buffer.
1645mb/s float buffer.
and sandra is using 512mb ram for testing where as my mobo and sandra detects i have 1gig. i didnt get either. well even runing bechmark with sandra i get same results. any suggestion... or it is bacause i dont have dual channel mobo.????[/quote] _________________ ----------------------------------------

that chipset does not support dual channel operation. you would need to get a new motherboard.
JayDub would probably say that the Epox board he got is a good board.
Others will say that an Abit nForce2 board will be good. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

so i am expreinceing low bandwith due to my MOBO not being captable with dual channel ram. _________________ ----------------------------------------

hey dude, listen its either one of two or both of these things... ur mobo wont support anything faster than say DDR333 so all ur ram is running slow.. or ur ram is garbage.. _________________ My setupd:

NO its the fact that he has a slow motherboard. It does NOT have dual channel. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

What the Weaz said. His current board supports DDR400, just not dual channel.
Max, yes, you'll get better bandwidth out of a dual-channel capable board. I should note, though......your RAM speed is fine, just not as fast as it will be with dual channel. What you're hitting right now is good for a single-channel board. Kindof up to you if you want to go through replacing a motherboard for the extra oomph. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

honestly not worth replacing the mobo u wont see any increase in performance with a dual channel board.. that is unless if u were running like ddr266 or something...
the max fsb for a athlon xp is 400mhz therefore that is where the mem. bandwidth will cut off.. even if it is 3200dc ram _________________ I finally got an award=OFFICIAL ROCKSTEADY AWARD and then one time... at tweaknews dene gave me a A+++++++....
