I'm not very knowledgable about this, the HD I'm getting uses IDE ultra ata100, and here is the p4c800 deluxe specs

AI feature: AI Audio, AI Overclocking, AI NET, AI BIOS
Supported CPU:P478 Pentium 4 / Celeron HT Ready
Chipset: I875P Canterwood + ICH5
FSB:800!/533/400 MHz
RAM:Dual Channel DDR PC2100/2700/3200 Max 4GB
IDE:Ultra DMA 100/66/33 Max 4 Devices
Slots:AGP 8X
Ports:2xPS2,1xCOM,1xLPT,4xUSB,1xLAN,1xFirewire and Audio
Onboard Audio:ADI AD1985 SoundMAX 6-channel CODEC
Onboard LAN:3COM Gigabit 10/100/1000Mbs
Onboard Firewire:VIA 1394 Controller
Onboard SATA: 2 x Serial ATA
and Onboard Raid: Promise 20378 RAID - RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, Multiple RAID 1 x UltraDMA

I thought about SATA but don't you require an extra power source for that?
would the HD work on this board?

Yes it will.

DMA 100/66/33 those are ur choices...if u want quiet, go for Seagate or Western Digital..Maxtor tends to be louder and not as reliable. how big of a HD are u looking for?

oh really? the IDE does have ata100 support? Nice, I saw a western digital 120 gb HD on sale at newegg for 107. I was gonna get that... this will be my first self built PC, I'm going crazy making sure everything will fit and work :)

what's ata and dma? is there a difference? I really don't get it.

normally on mother boards, this is waht you're looking at for HDs..

IDE:Ultra DMA 100/66/33 Max 4 Devices, but the new boards are compadable with SATA as well..SATA is different because it uses differnt plugs, but the IDEs are still ther as well..I am using IDE myself, didnt wanna pay mroe for SATA..yet..so yeh,..enjoy!

Same s***, different pile as some would say.
