hey i just updated my bios.. and...
(your expecting some horror story?)
well unlike a lot of other people who kill their bios, DFI made it super easy for me.. all i did just now, was DL the bios flash to my floppy and boot from my floppy, thats it.. eveyrhting worked perfectly.. i must say im really impressed. i just have one question though. should i be noticing any difference at all? the bios update says it will support more memory, and updated memory controller or something.. i donno, should i be noticing something different? cause it runs the zact same.. _________________ My setupd:

you may get a few more options in the BIOS too, nothing special, but if yoiu are having problems its always worth doing.
I know that ABIT are very easy to update the BIOS with. Mine lets me do it in windows, and its never failed me. Resets CMOS too. _________________ »4 RS«»1Ж «»1 DENE«»1 FREAKIN LAME OH«»1 MONEY MONEY«

A BIOS flash won't speed up your machine, all it does is (typically) add more options, allow for a new proc core, or as in your case, higher memory support. You won't see any difference at all, if you run everything exactly the same as before the flash.
In my case, a BIOS flash to my Shuttle mobo gave me all the options for memory tweaking, proc adjustements, faster RAM support (PC3200, up from PC2700), and a few other things. I had most of the options before, but the update gave me ALL of them, which was nice. Didn't make my computer faster, though. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

if there is any performance gain by updating the bios it is usually under 2%, if even that. And there are times where the updated bios can bork the system too. But a bios update is something that is easy to do if done right. But if it is done wrong it can be a nightmare. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! So I Tweaked some more!

| asus also has problem with their bios update with their software. I wonder how come not many more mobo comes with bios backup in case something wrong happened, you can revert back to the old bios. They should put original bios permenently in the memory chip and when the bios update failed or has problem, you just have to switch the jumper and everything back to the original coniditon (kinda like you reset). |

Gigabyte has the Dual Bios thing. I recently updated my bios with the @Bios utility, it can back up the old bios and its a sinch to update it.
Im not a big fan of gigabyte, but ive had no problems with the board yet. _________________ | AMD Athlon X2 4600+ (939) | DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra D | Seagate 40GB/WD 80GB/Maxtor 250GB | OcZ 1GB PC3200 Premier Edition | Asus EN7600GT | Antec Neo HE 550W | Vista was crappy, back to XP MCE | |

The way i did it was through A floppy disk (you can download either the bios itself or a special version that goes on floppy and flashes automatically on bootup). The Nforce 4 mobos have that fun little Nvidia flash utility that you can flash BIOS through windows.... maybe i'll give that a go too
anyway i'm starting to think it wasn't the bios update that screwed me over. I jsut picked up the SLI-DR version with new vid cards and all - it does the exact same thing the Ultra-D did. SAo maybe it's my mem or drive or something. I orderd 2gb of PQI mem and dual raptor hard drives so if it does teh same thing after i put all that in, then the power supply will be the only original part left (and it's a nice one too - Antec True Power II 550 - dual 12v rails and all) _________________ DFI Nforce 4 SLI-DR
