What sounds better, a low volume in the computer, with my speakers cranked?

Or, a low volume on my speakers, and the in-os volume up?

If you have powerful speakers, keep the master volume and all device volumes in windows at 50%. If you have just average speakers, then keep the master at 50% and bump all the other devices (wave, mp3, MIDI, etc.) to 75%. Hope this helps.

set your windows volume from 60% - 80%, and the rest use ur speaker volume control. It gives the decent sound, because if you crank up ur speaker knobs, it might not be as clear, adn you'll end up having crappy sound, and on top of that, its not too good for the speakers..

the PC is a preamp output....generally a 0%THD.

about 75% on the PC and adjust accordingly on the speakers.

As a rule of thumb I personally crank the OS 100% and fully control the volume through the speakers.
