|
Hi, guys! First time here.
First, gerat review. I've already bought the speaker system, waiting for them on tuesday. Can't wait.
I own a IMac G5. As you probably know you cannot install any audio cards on it. So I was wondering, is there any good external audio card out there that gives me the Dolby Sorround and DTS, and everything that my LOGITECH Z-5500 can give me?
The IMac G5 comes with a buit in sound card that is stereo.... perfect for what I bought the speakers for.... music. But sometimes I watch DVDs on it, and it would be nice to have the hole experience... thanks for your help in advance...

I'd recommend the M-Audio Sonica Theater for you. 24 bit, PCM, AC3, and DTS, Mac compatible with OS-X. The only catch is it needs to be a native USB port, not an add-in card. I believe the G5 is native USB, so you should be just fine. You also need OS-X 10.3 or higher for DTS passthrough, when you use the Apple DVD player.
About $120 USD, I believe, MSRP. You can probably find it a bit cheaper. Comes with a good bit of software, mostly music production related, but fun to play with. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

Not to poke fun, but... Apple invented USB. It's been native since the early 90's. Especially on the powerbooks

Not to poke fun back, but you're wrong.......
Compaq, Digital Equipment, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NEC, and Northern Telecom invented USB as a replacement for RS-232 interfaces. It was initially a PC based interface. Apples, up until the later versions of the G4, included USB, but it was an add-in card, not a host-based chip. The PowerBooks did indeed have USB, but again, were not host based, they were a small add-in card.
You're thinking FireWire, which was designed by Apple, as an alternative to SCSI interfaces. Even still, FireWire was not integrated as a host controller until the G4, and also ran off of an add-in card included with the machines.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) is now responsible for the continued cross-platform development of FireWire (IEEE 1394), with Apple's continued input. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
