Sandness i think you can help me out with this.....
im curious.... i have this Visonik 15".... forgetting the model number, and its not infront of me.... but its 1000watts DVC sub, in a 2 cubic feet sealed enclosure.....
you think porting this thing would yield any better results, as it doesnt hit the highs well, since its a 15..... but maybe with a port, we could trick the ears.....
what do you think _________________

If you could find out the model number, that'd be great. And, if you have a specs sheet for it, that'd save me from searching for it. If not, thats ok too.
To determine if a sub is a good candidate for a given enclosure, the efficiency bandwidth product is generally a pretty good indicator. The EBP is the speaker's Fs/Qes. If it is about 50 or less, the speaker should be best in a sealed box. If it is about 90 or more, then ported should be best. And, if it falls in between 50-90, then it should work either way.
One thing to note, a sealed box should have better upper bass performance than your standard ported enclosure. Porting normally helps boost the low-end, which makes the upper range seem weaker yet.
Solution? Well, it depends. First, where is you sub amp's crossover set? Might be set too low. If you are running stock speakers of headunit power, then upgrading the speakers and running them on a separate amp will make quite a difference (along with a little sound deadening). Or, if you are interested in upgrading subs, you might want to find one with a lower inductance (Le). Low Le drivers typically can play the upper bass better. Or, if you want to try a different enclosure, there are a few advanced designs out there. But they can be messed up easier than sealed or ported boxes, as they require precise measurements and calculations. So I think I'd stay sealed. |

yeah ok EBP is around 40 so sealed is best......according to your calcs...
crossover set to around 80-90 for best sub stuff......and interiors are NOT powered off HU....so yeah...it just doesnt handle the highs like the 10 can.....
i like how my ride sounds....just wondering.....=] _________________
