Hey guyz/galz,
I have now come into difficulty in deciding whether or not to port my two 12" Alpine type R's which are currently in a sealed box, which is what I was planning to port using much appreciated extensive help from Sandness I have heard more often than not that a ported box suits these Alpines better than a sealed.
Which brings me to my question, which type of enclosure would you rather use these two subs in, and why? Cheerz |

you know my vote already.... but honestly man... trial and error.... thats how youre going to get the sound you want.... just play around with things, try things out...if you dont like it...change it..... =]
It looks like you have a little decision making trouble...=P _________________

lol thats tru...... At the moment I have decided I am quite happy with my subs and box and so will leave it sealed for the time being. However, there seems to be something missing that I cant put my finger on. Higher freq. bass seems to lack un 'punch', lower freq. bass seems to either be too much or too little depending on how i tweak the amp settings, and rumbles the seats too much. Another thing is I'm not sure if the cones are moving too freely- they seem to do so at around 1/4 of HU vol........ Quite baffled atm |

A sealed box will result in lower, boomier bass, since all the sound is coming from the front of the cones. A properly ported box will give you the punch and mid-bass you're looking for, and will allow the cones to move freely.......in effect, you're getting the sound from both front and rear of the cone.
I'm not sure on the Type R's, but from my own experience, ported boxes sound better. You'll lose some of the extreme low end boom, but you'll gain double that in clarity. _________________ Big enough to scare you |
