best looking computer game?

So I built a sick new rig (check the siggy) and I want to know what is the best looking game out there. I have Half Life 2, UT 2004, Far Cry, and Doom III (well, I have an eBay issue with Doom III but I will get it installed soon), but it seems like the best looking game I have seen so far is actually a little older. I re-installed Homeworld 2 and that game is just glorious. Has anyone else played it? I just spent the last 3 days beating it agian just to see all the levels.

So what do you all think is the best looking game around?

Me?... I can't wait for Battlefield 2, but I don't think that will be the best game graphically.

the lighting in Doom 3 is excellent, Half Life 2 has awesome reflections, and Farcry has incredible draw distance, and the water looks amazing.

I played a little bit of the original Homeworld, but I found the game annoying

but graphics were good for their time

I personally like Doom 3, the multiplayer mode though. It has the same dynamic lighting effects and shadows.

yes .. the graphics in doom 3 are amazing... half life two.. amazing... far cry... excellent... i love the lighting effects in both hl2 and d3... simply awesome

Hm..........well, for ME, the best looking game is one I can run at full resolution, full effects, and full speed.

Honestly, if you're talking games in general, not just shooters, I still think the Myst series of games was the best looking, even today the graphics there blow away FPS games. But they're not shooters, so they can afford to. From what I have now, HL2 definitely beats Doom 3. You can actually SEE, for one thing, the motion is much smoother, overall a much more satisfying effect.

On the other hand, Strip Poker 2003 might not have the best control layout, but the graphics are much more satisfying......

u know wut i forgot to mention.. wolfenstien 3d.. those gfx blow ur socks off guarenteed... i mean when u see those german shepards commin at u.. worse that doom3 mayne

I think HL2 overall with all the lighting affects. When it comes to character details and damage etc, Far Cry. I also think indoor scenes are the best on Far Cry, but even though the water on FC is nice, its not that good. No real time reflections, where as HL2 is all real time.

I know we're toting graphics, but the Havoc engine that runs HL2's physics makes such visually pleasing situations that it cannot be overlooked. Also, the sheer detail work put into HL2 textures and the like is stunning

I havn't played HL2 yet but I do have Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines which uses the HL2 engine and it kicks some serious a$$, doom3 only runs on lowest settings on my rig so NO COMPARISON.

Ah... I am in Uganda at the moment so it will be a while untill I can get it here. And my rig won't play it too well. I think I'll wait till I upgrade

OMG, HL2 just looks sooo amazing, its absolutely ridiculous...the time they took with all the details is evident in everything you look at...but i admit FC has some great effects, from the little that i have seen...and i heard after all the hooplah died down, it turned out that D3 was crap compared to FC and HL2, which would explain my excitement at NOT buying it!

i really was not impressed with D3 or HL2.

the best games that i have seen so far are Riddick and painkiller BOFH.

riddick is just awesome looking, some of the best graphics i have ever seen. once you get the shine it is awesome.

Painkiller is highly overlooked when it comes to games. in the expansion battle out of hell the rollercoaster level is truely incredible. I redo that level just to watch the graphics. every time i see something different. I run the game at 4AA x 16AS. best game ever

I thought D3 and HL2 were quite nice looking but the gameplay was boring.

just my 2 cents.

I can slightly aggree with you on D3...but HL2....big no no....but your opinion is your opinion

Though you are the first person i have come across who doesnt like HL2.

Im personally not a fan of Half-Life 2 either, like there is no denying the graphics, real time rendering, anything like that. Yes it succeeds over Doom 3 there, it also succeeds Doom 3 in story. The point is both stories arent good IMO. FPS's never have good storylines, they arent meant to (with the exception of a couple) and that is why I only play them for benchmarking and to take my anger out. Hell I still play my good ol' Halo: Combat Evolved because I'm good at the multiplayer

It's not out yet but just look at the screenshots. It's going to be SWEEET.

I finally got HL2 myself, and I hate to say it.........aside from the graphics, I'm not terribly impressed. I mean, it's OK, but it does get boring pretty quickly. I'm just playing it now to shoot things and see what they do.

Agreed on Painkiller, as well. I still just have the demo, but that's next on my list. Far better than HL2.

cant believe i didnt mention it seeing as i sped about 25 hours a week and more playing on it.....Counter Strike Source is my favourite game....and i dont think there are many more that are more addictive or annoying.
