Have you tweaked your HPF & LPFs?

Could the speakers & SW be "out of phase" with your system?

It should sound awesome with all those watts... I hope you get it straightened out...

watts dont really mean volume...just power to speakers..... yeah you need to be more specific about will not get loud.....

Do the speaker travel alot?
Is the amp getting hot?
Are they bridged mono?
Are they run in series or parallel?
Head unit....size enclosure....etc

this isquite inaccurate. they do NOT always = louder..... it really depends on the efficiency of the setup.....

When I said it wouldnt get loud i meen that when i turn it up i can barly hear it....theres a little rumble but not much...i have turned the stuff on the amp up and everything.... the only thing i can think of is when they hooked the speakers up in the box they were hooked up wrong...guess i should have done it myself.. I will check that out tonight... Can that be the problem?? Anything else that could cause this?

even if they were wired wrong...chances are with everything all the way up you would get some serious volume.....this sound so far like an amp problem....most likely in the wiring....

The amp is a Brand new A1800!DQ mono block amp...with cooling fans...havent used it enough for it to get hot...they are wired parallel....the head unit is a JVC...dont remember the model....Box is a sealed wedg box...not sure on the Cubic inches.... I think that the it may only be hooked up to you voice coil in the box....im at work atm but I will take them out and look at them when i get home.....but you think it could be the amp?

Well lastnight when i got home i took the subs out of the box and found that only on voice coil was hooked up......I had the subs wired with the +'s togeather and the -'s togeather going to the amp.... so i hooked up both voice coils while i hade them out of the box and when i put them back in and turned it on i found that one of the subs wasnt working..... i played with it for another 3 hours and that sub just wouldnt work...

Wiring looked like this http://www.usspeaker.com/parallel_wiring.gif

Actually, the way they were originally hooked up is proper. For parallel hookup, the pos's and neg's are hooked together. You might want to try serial hookup, with the pos of the first sub hooked to the neg............I had a diagram here somewhere, it's hard to picture from a text post.

Anyway, with dual voice coil, hooked to a mono amp, here's basically what you do:

Hook on positive on each sub to the positive on the amp, connect the negative on that same coil to the positive on the other coil of each sub (meaning, sub one, + terminal on the first coil to + on amp, - on first coil to + on second coil), then the - connection on the second coil to the amp. Do this with both speakers, and you're using both coils on both subs.

Personally, I think you got ripped on the subs and box.........dual coil subs are best in single-sub config, for a dual, triple, or quad sub box, you're best served by single coil subs, that can be run the same way off a mono amp, without the power loss.

I have looked through a few diffrent forums and most people say that the Alums being 6ohm its best to run them in a set of 3 and with a mono amp stable to 1ohm.....i have 2 subs and the amp it stable to 1ohm but its at 1.5 atm....i didnt get riped on the subs and the box because i only gave $75 for each sub and the box is just a old one i built for some subs i had in my truck...moved to a t-bird so need new box...

Well, that's half your problem there. The box you have isn't designed for those subs, nor for the space in the back of your car. Replace the box, wire them in series (minimum ohm load, max thump), and you'll be good.

Ya just can't take any sub and throw it in any box, in any car, ya know.........they have to match.

Actually, he has them wired up properly, he just needs to look at them again and make sure all the subwoofer negative connections go to the negative connection on the amp and the same for the positive.

If he wires them in serial, his ohm load will be 6ohms and he won't be getting the power that that amp is supposed to be pushing.

Here is more information:

http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/#2dvcsp

Check all your amp connections and make sure you have them properly installed.

But that does not apply to this setup seeing the amp is able to handle 1 ohm load.

sorry, I meant in parrallel. all the +'s together to the + on the amp, and all the -'s together to the - on the amp (2 DVC drivers in parallel into 1 ohm to gain max output from the amp) correction approved Razz
