also, make sure it was installed correctly. A little bit of static can cause some real annoying and serious problems. next check your slave\ master jumper pin setting on the drive. If that doesn't work pull the cable check to make sure it is lined up all the way (no bent pins) and reinstall it. If you still have trouble, go into the bios and do what gmoney said.
I had a problem with static one time and I kept getting random beeps high and low pitched, long and short when I played games and I started getting heat. I drove me freaking insane then I decided to rearrange cable and I touched the mobo and shock That made me almost soil myself, then I powered on, the video was blurred, then it went normal and WALA no beeping _________________ P4 3.2ghz

Yeah, I think he means CASE.......although, he's the second person to call it a cage.......are we missing something?
One bit confuses me. First you say the BIOS won't recognize any drives, but then in the next sentence you say it DOES see the hard drive. Which is it?
Check the obvious:
Make sure your IDE cables are plugged in, the right way (they only can go one way, so if you have it backwards, i.e. mobo end plugged into the HDD, it won't work), and right side up.
Make sure your power is plugged in properly. Lord knows how many times I've assembled a PC, closed everything up, and booted, only to find that I hadn't plugged the power into the hard drives.......
Like the others said, make sure your jumpers are set properly (unless it's SATA, then you don't need to set them).
Now, if it's WINDOWS that won't see the drives, that's a whole different can of worms, usually fixed by a reinstall of Windows.
A little more info would be useful, though........does the BIOS see the drives, but Windows doesn't?
Another potential problem is when you installed the motherboard. Did you use JUST the standoffs needed for your board, or did you put all of them in? If you did, or have one in the wrong place (touching the back of the board) you're probably shorting your motherboard out. ONLY use the ones needed for the mounting screws, not ALL of them. Common mistake, believe it or not........ _________________ Big enough to scare you |

To fnf - he said it wouldn't recognize his IDE drives, but his HDD is SATA, and it is recognized. _________________
