Hi, I have a question ta ask...i've been using Azureus ( torrent client ) to download...but they have become slow as my ISP is somehow limiting the port used by P2P clients...I know there is a way to make the ISP think you're using another port like port 80 or the port we use to check e-mails,instead of the one Azureus usually uses ( ie port 6881) so as to not have any limits on port.

Anyone knows of some software that encrypts the ports to any ports I wish to??

Thanx

Unless the software itself specifically allows port locking, then no, all P2P sofware (by default) uses random ports. Check under the settings, there should be an option to bind to a certain port, for use behind a firewall.

Unless you are speaking of strictly legit downloading, then this thread should end now. Dont mean to jump the gun, but i can see where this might be going......

I should have said that.

Port forwarding is a legit thing, actually. Most IM programs, many online game programs, and even some auto-update programs require port forwarding if you're on a router or behind a firewall.

I don't have as huge a problem giving BitTorrent info, since most Linux distros are put out over Bittorrent, and even some newer legit games are sent via Bittorrent. Despite the illegitimate uses, it's still a favorite online distro service of legit businesses.

Now, if he's asked about Direct Connect, I'd have shut right the heck up.

usually ur isp wont limit bandwidth to ur specific port.. considering u are purchasing an amount of bandwidth for the full networking spectrum.. i have a 4meg line etc and i have never had these issues... what it might be that is limiting ur bandwidth is the amount of seeds and peers that ur being allowed to download off of... make sure that u have it ur download settings maxed out
